ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy gymnastics team will move into the head-to-head portion of its 2022 schedule this weekend when it welcomes William & Mary for an ECAC showdown on Saturday afternoon. After competing in multi-team opens the first two weekends of the season, the Mids will go up against the Tribe as they look to fine tune their performances prior to the 2022 Star Meet on Feb. 5 versus Army. First touch between Navy and William & Mary is set for 2 p.m. at Halsey Field House.

Last Time Out: 2022 Navy Open, January 22
Competing for the first time at its new facility, Halsey Field House, the Navy gymnastics team had its second straight strong outing in as many weeks as the Mids finished runner-up to the Penn State Nittany Lions as part of the multi-team 2022 Navy Open. At the conclusion of the action on Saturday, the Nittany Lions claimed the team title with 385.85 points, just 1.65 points ahead of the Mids, who recorded a score of 384.20. The final standings saw Penn State and Navy go one-two, ahead of Springfield College, William & Mary and Temple. The Pride placed third with 372.65 points, while the Tribe and Owls finished with scores of 367.45 and 334.10, respectively.
Navy's lineup was stout throughout the meet and helped the host squad post the highest scores on floor exercise, the rings and the high bar. The Mids' five-man lineups outscored the field by over four points on the floor and over two points on the high bar.
Standout efforts by
Isaiah Drake and
Giovanni Gambatese resulted in first place individual outcomes on the floor exercise and high bar, respectively.
Ronan McQuillan was the third Mid to win an event on Saturday as he held off a pair of Nittany Lions on the pommel horse. Drake and McQuillan were honored during the week as the ECAC Rookie and Specialist of the Week. Additionally, for his first place result of 77.7 in the all-around competition, Drake was selected as the CGA National Gymnast of the Week.
As a team, Navy scored 65.4 points on the floor exercise, 56.6 on the pommel horse, 67.0 on the rings, 66.8 on the vault, 63.35 on the parallel bars and 65.05 on the high bar.

Most Recent Navy-William & Mary Matchup: February 21, 2021
Navy concluded a busy week of action with a strong road effort on Sunday afternoon at William & Mary. Competing for the third time in eight days, the Mids used their depth to defeat the Tribe, 395.60-385.45 at Kaplan Arena. Navy outscored William & Mary in five different events and had individuals place first on five apparatus on its way to a team-best scoring mark for the 2021 season.
Josh Williams ('22) started the individual wins with a victory on the floor exercise before
Jake Carlson ('21) and
David Toussaint ('21) shared top-billing on the pommel horse. On the rings, Carlson was joined in first place by classmate
Ryan McVay ('21).
Travis Keller ('21) and
Giovanni Gambatese ('23) closed out the list of victorious Midshipmen as they claimed wins on the parallel bars and high bar, respectively.
As a team, Navy posted a score of 68.4 on the floor exercise, a 64.85 on the pommel horse, 65.0 on the rings, 69.2 on the vault, 64.45 on the parallel bars and a 63.7 on the high bar.
Parking
Vehicle access to the U.S. Naval Academy is limited to those with a Department of Defense identification card ... Spectators may park outside of the USNA grounds and enter the Academy through the visitors' entrance located at Gate One at the corner of King George and Randall Streets (52 King George St.). Anyone under the age of 18, and who does not have a government-issued ID, must be accompanied by an adult. Halsey Field House is located directly to the right of the visitors' entrance.
COVID-19 Policy
As per Department of Defense regulations, those who have not been vaccinated must wear a mask at all times when on the USNA grounds and those who have been vaccinated have the option to wear a mask while outdoors but must wear a mask while indoors.
