ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Navy offshore sailing team had a great weekend at the Storm Trysail Club Intercollegiate Offshore Regatta in Larchmont, N.Y., posting a first-place finish and a pair of second-place finishes.

With all three crews sitting second in their respective classes after Saturday, senior
Joseph Zaladonis and his
Blue Yonder crew came from behind on Sunday to take first place by three points in the J-122 division. Zaladonis' crew included senior
Madelyn Ploch on tactics, senior
Jackson DuPaix on main trim, juniors
Renee Bonner and
Kobe Nguyen on spin and jib trim, sophomore
Logan Hewitt on bow, junior
Casey Quijano on pit and sophomore Chris Cordner on mast.

Senior Jake Kiggins captained the
Atalanta crew to a second-place finish in the J-42 division, just one point out of first, and senior
Virendra Ghate guided the crew aboard the
Vento Solare to a second-place spot in the J-109 division.

The Midshipmen also had three J-105 boats in the Annapolis Yacht Club's Fall Series, where the Dreadnought crew captained by junior Pat Fisher placed 15th, junior Frank Connor led the Constellation crew to take 16th and the Avenger finished 18th under juniors
Luke Meottel and
Nate Bramwell.
Additionally, the offshore sailing team had combined effort with the Navy intercollegiate sailing team at the Regata Escola Naval in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, as the combined crew of Mids took first place in the J-24 class at the Brazilian Naval Academy.

Navy is back in action Oct. 21-22 at the McMillan Cup, the J-105 East Coast Championship and the JV Keelboat Invitational, with all three regattas being held in Annapolis, Md.
