Navy Squash Extends Winning Streak to Six in a Row

The 25th-ranked Navy squash team won its sixth-consecutive match thanks to an 8-1 victory over #28 Dickinson Wednesday evening at the Kline Center in Carlisle, Pa. The Mids now stand 11-1 on the year, while the Red Devils move to 0-3 after opening their season last weekend with back-to-back 9-0 losses to #16 Franklin & Marshall and #2 Penn.

Match Highlights
• Navy senior Tommy Rankin (Atlanta, Ga.)  provided Navy with an early lead by dispatching senior Sam Knipp in three games (11-6, 11-8, 11-6) at #5.
• Dickinson evened the match at one apiece when rookie Cormac Sullivan dealt first-year player Shankar Jambunathan (So / Aurora, Ill.) a 3-0 setback (11-1, 11-3, 11-7) at #9.
• #3 player Henry Sparkman (Jr / Darien, Conn.) provided the "spark" for the Mids, as he defeated fellow junior Kobe Fleming in four games (10-12, 11-5, 11-4, 11-5) to put Navy up for good
• Team captain Millen Randell (Sr / Chicago, Ill.) earned a gritty win at the #1 position over Dickinson junior Omar Ali in 5 games. Ali jumped out to a 2-1 advantage before Randell evened the match behind a 12-10 victory in the fourth. Randell fell behind 6-3 in the fifth game, but would not be denied as he ralled to defeat Ali 11-8.
• Freshman Alexander Orr (Haverford, Pa.) clinched the team victory for Navy with his 3-0 sweep over senior Patrick Noonan at #6.
• Senior Ben Balser (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also scored a big win for the Mids with his five-game victory against junior Jack Corkum at #8. Balser won the opening game 11-6, however, the two players answered one another's win with one of their own until the fifth game in which Balser took control and nearly shut out Corkum with an 11-1 victory.

What's Ahead
• Navy will play a pair of matches at the home site of Wesleyan in Connecticut where it will take on #32 Connecticut College on Friday at 7:00 pm before closing out the two-day trip with a 12-noon match against host Wesleyan, who is ranked 27th.
• Navy will serve as the season-opener for both Connecticut College and Wesleyan.
• A live scoring link for both matches will be available on the Navy Athletics website and via Club Locker.
