Five Starting Notes
1 – Navy starts its 116th season of basketball Monday night.
2 – The Mids have won each of their last two and three of their last five season openers.  Last year, Navy posted a 66-58 victory at No. 25 Virginia on opening night.
3 – Navy has opened a season earlier than Nov. 7 twice (Nov. 6, 2018, and Nov. 5, 2019).
4 – Navy and William & Mary last met one season ago (Navy, 75-56 in Annapolis) and are playing a game at Williamsburg for the first time since the Mids won a 102-99 triple overtime game on Nov. 22, 2008.
5 – The teams were conference foes for a decade (1981-82 to 1990-91) as they were fellow members of the ECAC South / Colonial Athletic Association.

About Navy
•    Navy returns two starters, five letter winners and 19 players from last year's team.  There are seven freshmen on the squad.
•    The Mids posted a 21-11 overall record and, with a 12-6 record, placed second in the Patriot League.  The Mids advanced to the championship game of the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since the 2001 event.
•    Navy placed fourth in the 2022-23 Patriot League Preseason Poll.

About William & Mary
•    William & Mary brings back two starters and four letter winners from its 2021-22 team.
•    The Tribe compiled a 5-27 overall record last year and placed ninth in the Colonial Athletic Association.
•    William & Mary placed eighth in the 2022-23 CAA Preseason Poll.

College Experience Comparison
•    Navy returns 19 players from last season, a group that has totaled 37 seasons of college basketball at Navy and 38 years of college basketball overall.  There are an additional seven freshmen on the team who are entering their first season of college basketball.
•    William & Mary's roster consists of four players who have totaled eight seasons of college basketball at the school and nine players who have totaled 21 seasons of basketball on the collegiate level.  The new players with college experience have played at St. Thomas (Minn.), Providence, Pitt, Vanderbilt and Rice.  There are an additional five freshmen on the roster.

Series History
•    Navy holds a 41-19 advantage in the all-time series with William & Mary.  This includes an 11-10 edge in games played at Williamsburg.  The teams have split the prior 20 games that have been contested in Kaplan Arena.
•    The teams first met, Dec. 17, 1927, in Annapolis.  Navy posted a 48-20 victory in that inaugural game.
•    Navy won last season's game in Annapolis, 75-56.  That was the first game between the teams since the Mids won a 102-99 triple overtime game 13 years earlier in Williamsburg.
•    The two teams shared a conference affiliation for a decade as each were members of the ECAC South / CAA from the 1981-82 through 1990-91 seasons.
•    Navy held a 13-6 advantage in regular season and tournament games played between the teams during that era, including a 6-2 advantage in games played at William & Mary.
