The Navy squash team (5-1) was dealt its first setback of the 2022-23 campaign on Tuesday evening, as fifth-ranked Virginia (1-0) earned a 9-0 victory over the Mids in Charlottesville, Va. Navy, ranked No. 25 nationally, opened its season this past the weekend in Charlotte, N.C., where it captured victories over North Carolina (8-0), Richmond (7-0), Duke (8-1), Davidson (5-0), NC State (5-0). Virginia, who was facing the Mids in its season opener, is coming off an eighth-place finish at last year's National Championship.

Millen Randell (Sr / Chicago, Ill.) was the lone Navy player in the lineup to extend his match to four games. Randell won the opening game against Cullen Little, 11-9, before Little rallied to edge the Navy veteran 11-9, 11-4 and 11-9 to win 3-1.

Matt Wang (Malvern, Pa.) put forth a solid effort for a second-consecutive year against the Cavaliers. A year ago, he took Taha Dinana to four game. This year, he dropped a 3-0 match to John Paul Tew, but Tew won the first two games by two points apiece (11-9, 12-10) before sealing the win in the third, 11-4.
What's Ahead
• Navy will have little rest before returning home to play host to its annual three-day Veterans Day Weekend round robin beginning Friday evening.
• The Mids play Fordham in their opener at 7:00 pm on Friday at the Prager Family Squash Facility, face Boston U. (9:00 am) and Denison (2:30 pm) on Saturday and close out action for the weekend on Sunday with a 10:00 am match against Bucknell and a 12-noon match against Georgetown.
