NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) announced its 2022 Most Valuable Player and Navy sprint football's Alex Totta (Kansas City, Kan.) was selected. The MVP was chosen by a vote from the league coaches, who selected from the conference major award winners. Totta helped the Midshipmen to an undefeated season, including defeating Army to claim the 2022 CSFL Championship.
 
Late last month, Totta was tabbed the 2022 CSFL Offensive Player of the Year. In addition, he was named 2022 First Team All-CSFL as a running back.
 
Totta becomes the second consecutive Midshipmen to earn CSFL MVP accolades and the eighth since 2004. Navy, who saw defensive back Adam Weissenfels ('22) earn the award in 2021, recorded back-to-back MVPs for the first time since 2004 and 2005. Totta is the first Navy running back since Eric Wellmon ('15) in 2011 to receive the distinction.
 
Totta started all eight games, tallying 1,113 yards rushing to average 139.1 yards per game. The offensive team captain scored 15 touchdowns and added a two-point conversion to lead the team in scoring with 92 points. Totta finished third on the team with 13 receptions for 109 yards, averaging 8.4 yards per catch. In addition, the running back finished the year 1-for-1 on pass attempts, completing an 11-yard pass. Totta tallied 1,124 yards of total offense to average 140.5 yards per game.
 
Navy completed its undefeated season with a win over Army at home to claim the 2022 CSFL Championship. The win gave Navy its 39th conference championship and 32nd outright title. It was the second consecutive CSFL Championship for the Midshipmen. The Mids closed out the season a perfect 8-0, including a 3-0 mark in the South Division. It is the 27th time that Navy has gone unbeaten during the season.
