The Navy men's basketball team will finish its non-league schedule of games Wednesday night when the Mids (7-4) play at VCU (8-4) in a 7 p.m. game.

Five Starting Notes
1 – Navy and VCU are meeting for the first time in 43 seasons (January 1980) and just the third time in series history.
2 – While the Mids and the Rams have not met in a generation, Navy did play host to VCU during the inaugural playing of the Veterans Classic in Annapolis.  VCU posted an 85-69 victory over Tennessee in the first game of the 2014 event that has now been played nine times.
3 – Navy enters the game ranked 311th in the country with an average of 65.4 possessions a game and VCU is ranked 82nd with 70.7 possessions per game.
4 – The game will close out Navy's pre-Patriot League schedule.  The Mids have assured themselves of a winning pre-league record for the fourth year in a row and the fifth time in six seasons.  The last time Navy posted winning records against non-league foes in as many as four-straight seasons was when the Mids had a run of six in a row from 1981-82 through 1986-87 when they were part of the ECAC South (four years) and Colonial Athletic Association (two years).
5 – Navy ranks 26th nationally with an average of 9.7 three-point field goals made a game.  The last time Navy ended a season ranked among the top-100 teams in that statistic was 2011 when the Mids were 56th.

Last Game - Navy 93, Washington, Md. 54
•    Navy jumped out to an early 12-3 lead.
•    It was a 25-16 Navy advantage when the Mids went on a 12-0 and 28-3 run to build a 53-19 lead.
•    Navy led by at least 30 points over the final 23 minutes.
•    Lysander Rehnstrom was 5-6 from the field in scoring a career-high 13 points to lead the Navy offense.

About VCU
•    VCU finished the 2021-22 season with an overall record of 22-10.  The Rams tied for second place in the Atlantic 10 Conference with a 14-4 record.
•    Seeded third in the conference tournament, the Rams were upset by sixth-seeded and eventual tournament champion Richmond in the quarterfinal round.
•    VCU defeated Princeton in the first round of the NIT before losing to Wake Forest in the second round.
•    The Rams placed third in this year's A10 Preseason Poll.
•    VCU has posted an 8-4 record this season.  VCU has defeated Pittsburgh and Vanderbilt this year and suffered losses to Arizona State, Memphis and Temple.
•    Wednesday's game will the fifth in a six-game homestand for the Rams.

Navy-VCU Series
•    Wednesday's game will be the first between the teams in 43 seasons and just the third in series history.
•    VCU has won both previous games, with the most recent contest being an 87-67 decision on Jan. 9, 1980, in Richmond.

Navy vs. Atlantic 10 Conference
•    Navy has posted a 63-89 record against teams currently in the Atlantic 10 Conference.  Navy last faced a team from the A10 in 2021-22 when it played George Mason.

VCU vs. Patriot League
•    VCU has compiled a 19-4 record against teams currently in the Patriot League.  The Rams last played a Patriot League team during the 2019-20 season when they played Loyola.

•    Navy has posted a 7-5 record in games played on Dec. 21.
•    The Mids have tallied a 166-108 record against teams located in Virginia.
