ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy gymnastics team will continue its slate of first half competitions with its sixth meet in as many weeks with a road meet at Springfield College. The Mids have had a strong start to their 2022 season with head-to-head victories over Army and William & Mary, as well as first-place results at multi-team events, the All-Academy Championship and the Navy Open. Currently, Navy's three-score nationally qualifying average of 394.067 ranks eighth. First touch between the Mids (4-0) and Pride (0-1) at Springfield's Blake Arena is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Sunday.

The Mids and Pride met earlier this season at the multi-team West Point Open on January 14. One of six teams competing at Army's Christl Arena, Navy turned in a score of 391.45 that helped the team finish runner-up. Springfield College was solidly in fourth place with a score of 378.55. One week later in Annapolis at the 2022 Navy Open, Penn State claimed the team title with 385.85 points, just 1.65 points ahead of the Mids, who recorded a score of 384.20. The Pride placed third with 372.65 points.
Last Time Out: Navy at All-Academy Championship, February 12
One week after a 17.7-point victory over Army in the 2022 Star Meet, the Navy gymnastics team doubled down on its dominance versus service academy rivals as the Mids captured their fourth straight All-Academy Championship with a 12.25 advantage over the field of Army and Air Force on Saturday night. Competing at Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Navy outscored its rivals on four events on its way to a 393.5 final score. Army placed second with 381.25 points to hold off Air Force, who recorded a team score of 379.9.
Navy's depth was on display on Saturday night as five different Mids staked claim on individual event wins. Team captain
Dhiren Lutchman, who was victorious on the parallel bars, was joined by a quartet of underclassmen as sophomores
Syam Buradagunta and
Ronan McQuillan won the floor exercise and pommel horse disciplines, respectively before the freshmen duo of
Isaiah Drake and
Riley Rose tied for top honors on the high bar.
As a team, Navy scored 68.05 points on the floor exercise, 65.5 on the pommel horse, 65.25 on the rings, 69.5 on the vault, 63.05 on the parallel bars and 62.15 on the high bar.

Most Recent Navy-Springfield head-to-head meet: March 3, 2019
With the COVID-19 pandemic wreaking havoc on the last two years of competition, the Mids and Pride haven't gone head-to-head since March 3, 2019. Competing in its second ECAC meet in less than two days in its second East Coast location, the Navy gymnastics team was up for the task as the No. 8 Mids came away with a 387.90-383.05 victory over the No. 16 Springfield College Pride. A close matchup throughout at Blake Arena, the Mids had to battle to the end as a 3.6-point advantage on the high bar helped clinch the road victory.
Navy received a host of strong individual performances on a day where head coach
Kip Simons trotted out a variety of different lineups to give some regulars rest, while allowing some youngsters to gather new and additional experiences.
Lucas Beltran ('20) and
Max Gerber ('21) led the Mids' cause on Saturday as both gymnasts finished first in a pair of events as Beltran was the event winner on the floor exercise and vault apparatus, while Gerber closed the meet with first-place efforts on the parallel bars and high bar. Other winners on Saturday included,
David Toussaint ('21) on the pommel horse and
Christian Correale ('19) on the rings.
Ben Provost ('20) also finished atop the standings as he tied Gerber on the high bar.
As a team, Navy scored 66.5 points on the floor exercise, 63.15 on the pommel horse, 63.6 on the rings, 67.4 on the vault, 63.05 on the parallel bars and 64.2 on the high bar.
