ANNAPOLIS, Md. –– The first Patriot League match of the season is ahead of the Navy men's tennis team this weekend as the Mids (17-7) will play host to Boston U. (1-12) Sunday at 9 a.m. in Annapolis. Half of the Navy team will face the Terriers and the other half will travel to Harrisonburg, Va., that same day for a 10:30 a.m. match at James Madison (11-4).
A site for the Navy-Boston U. match will be determined on Saturday by the expected weather forecast. The match will take place on the USNA Tennis Courts if it can be played outdoors and will be contested in the Tose Family Tennis Center if conditions keep the match indoors.
Sunday's match at James Madison will be played indoors at the East Campus Tennis Courts. Live results from that match can be found at NavySports.com.
Navy (17-7)
The Mids will be in competition on Sunday for the first time in two weeks. Navy split a pair of matches on March 13, winning a 7-0 decision against the District of Columbia and losing a 4-3 match to Old Dominion. The latter match against the Monarchs was Navy's seventh of the year to be decided by the final score of 4-3. The Mids have posted a 2-5 record in those matches.
Boston U. (1-12)
The Terriers enter a Saturday match at Georgetown after having earned their first victory of the season, a 4-3 win Sunday at Sacred Heart.
Boston U. has lost matches this year to teams such as Penn (5-2; Navy lost, 7-0), Bryant (4-3; Navy won, 5-2) and Drexel (7-0; Navy won, 4-2). The Terriers also have lost matches to UC San Diego, UC Irvine, New Mexico and Saint John's.
Navy holds a 7-2 edge in the all-time series with Boston U., a total that includes a 5-2 advantage for the Mids since the Terriers joined the Patriot League with the start of the 2014 season. Sunday's match will be the first to be played in Annapolis since 2018.
James Madison (11-4)
James Madison stopped a brief two-match losing streak with a 6-1 victory Thursday against Drexel. The Dukes also have recorded victories this season over Bucknell (7-0), Georgetown (5-2; Navy won, 6-1), George Mason (7-0; Navy won, 7-0) and Richmond (6-1; Navy lost 4-3) and suffered a loss to William & Mary (6-1; Navy lost, 6-1).
Sunday will be the ninth match between the Mids and the Dukes, the first to take place in three seasons and the first to be played in Harrisonburg since 1985. Navy leads the series by the count of 6-2.
