Swimming Championship Closes for Mauldin

ATLANTA, Ga. –– The last day of the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championship saw Navy's Caleb Mauldin (Sr., Chesapeake, Va.) finish in 33rd place in the trial heats of the 200 butterfly.  He recorded a time of 1:44.62 Saturday morning in Georgia Tech's McCauley Aquatic Center, which played host to the swimming events at the 1996 Olympic Games.

He entered the meet seeded 35th in the event with a qualifying time of 1:44.52.

Mauldin was competing at the national championship for the second year in a row.  He had posted NCAA B cut times in five events this year, but had to select just three events to compete in prior to the start of the meet.  Mauldin placed 43rd in the 100 backstroke on Friday -- the eighth-fastest time in Navy history -- and elected to not compete in Saturday's trial heats of the 100 freestyle.

"Caleb stands for all that is excellent in our program and the Naval Academy," said Navy men's swimming head coach Bill Roberts.  "From the beginning of his plebe year through today, he constantly worked harder for the betterment of the program.  He had some amazing individual accomplishments along the way, but everything he did was for the team.  I very much thank him for his approach and trusting us when he made his decision to attend Navy.  We have no doubt he will continue to be successful in all facets of his life in the future."
