The Navy squash team closed out the 2021-22 campaign over the weekend by sending representatives to compete at the Intercollegiate Doubles Championship and the National Collegiate Individual Championship played at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia.
Freshman
Matt Wang (Fr / Malvern, Pa.), the #3 player on the ladder who entered the weekend with an 18-8 record, was the Mids' lone player who competed in the individual tournament. Wang dropped a 3-0 decision to second-seeded Abdelrahman Lasheen of Rochester in the opener before falling out of the tournament following a five-game loss (11-6, 9-11, 11-13, 11-7, 11-4) to 10th-seeded Grant Sterman of Brown.
The Mids had two teams that competed in the doubles tournament, including
Gus Prager (Sr / New York, N.Y.) and
Henry Sparkman (So / Darien, Conn.) who fell in their opener to the Yale tandem of Merritt Wurts and Taylor Clayton in three games.
Team captain
Ryan York (Sr / Hunt Valley, Md.) and
Millen Randell (Jr / Chicago, Ill.), meanwhile, scored a 3-0 sweep against Tufts Dillon O'Shea and Marco Rodriguez in their first match of the weekend. York and Randell, however, dropped out of the tournament with a 3-1 (15-13, 15-12, 12-15, 15-11) loss to Penn's James Flynn and Yash Bhargava, who went on to play in the finals of the championship.
