Finn Garner (Jr., Arnold, Md.) from the Navy men's tennis team received a pair of honors this week. He first was named as this week's Patriot League Player of the Week and then shared the Naval Academy Athletic Association's Athlete-of-the-Week accolade, presented by Northrop Grumman, with Patrick Skalniak from the men's lacrosse team.
Garner earned the awards after he posted a combined 3-0-1 record during Navy's wins over Loyola and Army. Against the Greyhounds, he and
Gavin Segraves (Jr., Charlottesville, Va.) combined for a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles before Garner recorded a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 3 singles. Three days later, the Garner-Segraves tandem played to a 5-5 draw in the team's match against the Black Knights. Garner closed his efforts for the week by winning a 6-3, 6-0 decision in singles against Army.
Navy received the No. 1 seed in the Patriot League Tournament that runs Thursday through Sunday in Annapolis. The Mids will open tournament play Friday at 8:30 a.m. in the quarterfinal round of the event against the winner of the No. 8 Holy Cross vs. No. 9 Lafayette first round match that will be contested Thursday afternoon.
