ANNAPOLIS, Md. ‑‑ Three matches against Patriot League opponents are part of a four-match weekend for the Navy men's tennis team. On Saturday, the Mids (20-10, 2-0) will play host to Howard (5-6) at 10 a.m. and Bucknell (7-14, 2-1) at 1 p.m., with both matches scheduled to be played outdoors on the USNA Tennis Courts. Then on Sunday, one half of the Navy team will play at Lafayette (3-11, 0-4) at 9 a.m. and the other half will play at Holy Cross (2-11, 1-3) in a 10:30 a.m. contest.
Navy (20-10, 2-0)
The Mids improved their league record to 2-0 with a 5-2 victory at Lehigh Saturday. Navy first won a pair of doubles matches from the Mountain Hawks to take a 1-0 lead. The Mids then won each of the first three singles matches to finish to secure the victory.
Howard (5-6)
Howard and Navy have each faced Mount St. Mary's, George Mason, Georgetown and Morgan State this season. The Bison have compiled a 0-4 record against those foes and the Mids have posted a 4-0 record in the same matches.
Navy holds a 34-0 advantage in the all-time series with Howard. The teams have played each other in 26 of the last 29 seasons (1999, 2007, '21).
Bucknell (7-14, 2-1)
Bucknell will play at Mount St. Mary's Friday before traveling to Annapolis on Saturday.
The Bison have recorded league wins over Colgate (5-2) and Boston U. (4-0) and lost a 4-2 decision to Army. Additionally, Bucknell has posted a 2-4 record against the six teams Navy has faced this year, with the Mids tallying a 5-1 record against those same opponents.
Navy leads the all-time series with Bucknell by the count of 46-1. The Mids defeated the Bison by the score of 7-0 last season in a match played in Lewisburg, Pa.
Lafayette (3-11, 0-4)
Lafayette will play host to Fordham on Saturday before facing Navy on Sunday.
The Leopards have started league play with losses to Army (4-0), Lafayette (4-2), Holy Cross (4-2) and Lehigh (7-0).
Navy has posted a 39-2 record against Lafayette.
Sunday's match will be the first league regular season meeting of the teams in four years. Since that 2018 match in Easton, Pa., the Mids have defeated the Leopards in the 2018, '19 and '21 league tournaments. All of those three matches occurred in the quarterfinal round of the tournament, with Navy winning by scores of 4-0 each time.
Holy Cross (2-11,1-3)
Holy Cross is slated to play host to Lehigh Saturday.
The Crusaders enter the match against the Mountain Hawks having lost league duals to Colgate (6-1), Army (4-0) and Loyola (4-2), with their victory recorded against Lafayette (4-2).
Navy and Holy Cross have met on seven previous occasions, with the Mids winning each of those contests. Most recently, the Mids won a 6-1 decision over the Crusaders in 2019.
