ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Included among the United States Naval Academy's Class of 2022 were 24 first-class members of the varsity sports program who earned Graduate with Distinction honors.
 
Those who garner Graduate with Distinction laurels finish in the top-10 percent of the graduating class in the Overall Order of Merit, which includes academics, military performance, conduct and physical education standing.  There were 111 members of the Class of 2022 who earned the accolade, including Valedictorian Will Jarrett (Gales Ferry, Conn.) who was a member of the lightweight rowing program.  
 
This is the seventh year in a row, the 10th time in the last 12 years and 17th time starting with the Class of 2000 in which the No. 1 graduate on the Overall Order of Merit is a varsity sport athlete.
 
Jarrett was one of six varsity athletes to rank among the top-11 graduates in the class and 12 to rank among the top-23 graduates.  Men's swimmer Oli Smith (Rochester, N.Y.) ranked third, wrestler Jacob Allen (Poway, Calif.) ranked seventh, lightweight rower Matt Fox (Aurora, Colo.) and sprint football player Colin McMann (Detroit, Mich.) tied for ninth and women's soccer's Victoria Tran (Clarksville, Md.) ranked 11th.
