Navy Trio Secure Srixon/Cleveland Golf Academic Honors

Navy men's golfers Chad Deegan (Sr / Newport Beach, Calif.), Nicholas Klock (Sr / Moraga, Calif.) and Keegan Shreves (Jr / Potomac, Md.) have been named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars it was announced this week by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The Navy trio was among 440 Div. I student-athletes from 157 schools to garner the award and among 12 Patriot League players (Colgate-1, Holy Cross-2, Lehigh-2, Loyola-4) recognized.

To be eligible for the award, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically and athletically in NCAA  Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. Additionally, they must have participated in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

All three Navy golfers were named to the Patriot League's 2021-22 Men's Golf Academic Honor Roll earlier this month, while Shreves was named to the six-player Academic All-Patriot League Men's Golf Team this past spring. Both Deegan and Klock are three-time Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, while Shreves is a first-time selection.

A two-time All-Patriot League standout, Shreves owns a 3.74 grade-point average in Quantitative Economics and has been recognized on the Superintendent's (1x), Commandant's (6x) and Dean's (4x) Lists over his three years in Annapolis.

He competed in a team-best eight tournaments during the 2021-22 academic calendar where he turned in the second-lowest stroke average (74.96) among his teammates. He posted three top-20 performances, including a 10-place showing at the Patriot League Championship where he garnered Second-Team All-Patriot League recognition after posting a 6-over par 222. Shreves has been selected to serve as the team captain for the 2022-23 season.

Deegan, Navy's team captain during the 2021-22 campaign, graduated in May having put together a 3.39 grade-point average in Quantitative Economics. He was named to the Commandant's List in each of his last six semesters, while also earning Dean's List honors four times.

Deegan finished the year with the Mids' low stroke average, posting a 73.76 among the seven events in which he participated. He also closed out his career with a 73.95 average over 59 rounds in four seasons and earned All-Patriot League honors in 2019.

Klock also graduated in May and closed out his academic standing with a 3.59 grade-point average in History. During his four years in Annapolis, he garnered recognition on the Superintendent's (1x), Commandant's (4x) and Dean's (4x) Lists.

Klock produced a 75.25 stroke average among the eight events in which he played that included the inaugural Jackson T. Stephens Cup where he received a special invitation to participate. The 2021 All-Patriot League standout closed out his career with a 76.04 stroke average among 48 rounds.
