ANNAPOLIS, Md. – On Tuesday, the Navy women's rowing program announced the additions of
Anne Campbell and
Molly Milligan to its coaching staff. Head Coach
Joe Schlosberg welcomes the talented pair of assistant coaches from the ACC and Big Ten Conferences as Campbell recently served on the staff at Virginia, while Milligan was an assistant at Wisconsin.
"I'm beyond excited to welcome
Anne Campbell and
Molly Milligan to our coaching staff and the Navy Rowing Family," remarked Schlosberg. "Anne and Molly are individuals who will fit in well with our existing team dynamic and understand the high standards expected of our team of future leaders. They both come in with fantastic experience and fresh perspectives. They will add a ton to this program and will help to push the Midshipmen and Navy Women's Rowing to the next level."
Campbell joins the Navy staff after three years at the University of Virginia. Beginning with the Cavaliers as a volunteer assistant coach in August of 2019, Campbell was promoted to a full-time assistant position prior to the spring 2022 season. During her time with the Cavaliers, the team won thei
r 11th and 12th straight ACC Championships, while finishing fifth at the 2021 NCAA Championship and ninth at the 2022 national regatta. Campbell initially worked with the novice rowers at UVA, before moving onto coach the fourth and fifth varsity crews.
A collegiate rower at the University of Mary Washington, Campbell began her coaching career on the youth level with the Nashville Juniors in the spring of 2014 where she led the women's novice and second varsity crews. She briefly served as the interim head coach of the Nashville Juniors in the fall of 2017 and helped the team to a 10th-place finish at the Head of The Charles in the Women's Youth 8+, the program's highest finish to date. Nashville's novice crew finished third at the Head of the Hooch in Campbell's final season in 2018.
She graduated from Mary Washington with a Bachelor's of Science in Biology in 2012. Additionally, she completed her Master's of Education in Exercise Physiology from Virginia in 2022.
"I'm super excited to join the staff here at the United States Naval Academy," remarked Campbell. "I look forward to working with and supporting the Midshipmen the best that I can. I was really drawn to how hardworking the student-athletes are here. I can't wait to get to work!"
The second newcomer to Schlosberg's staff is
Molly Milligan, a 2020 graduate from Princeton University and a recent member of the University of Wisconsin program. Working with the Badgers as a graduate assistant during the 2021 and 2022 seasons, Milligan helped the team finish fourth at the 2021 Big Ten Championship before capping her initial season with a 14
th place result nationally at the 2021 NCAA Championship. The 2021 NCAA berth was the 13
th straight in program history. During the 2022 season, Wisconsin raced a top-flight schedule and concluded its campaign with a sixth-place finish at the Big Ten Championship. While in Madison, Milligan worked primarily with the first and second novice crews.
Milligan found a host of success competing at Princeton as a collegiate rower from the fall of 2016 through the spring of 2020. She twice rowed in grand final races at the NCAA Championship as she suited up with the Tigers' varsity four at the 2017 regatta and varsity eight at the 2018 national meet. At the 2018 NCAA Championship, Milligan and the Tigers placed fifth overall in the nation. Competing in three Ivy League Championships during her career, she collected gold with the varsity eight in 2018 and the second varsity eight in 2019. Rowing with the V4 in 2017, Milligan garnered a bronze medal. In addition to her conquests on the water, she was an accomplished student as she earned CRCA Scholar-Athlete recognition during her time with Princeton. Milligan is a proud third-generation collegiate rower as her mother, Wendy, rowed at Cal Berkeley and her grandfather, John, competed with the Rutgers crew program.
Prior to rowing at Princeton, Milligan competed with the 2015 USRowing World Development Team, as well as with Team USA at the 2016 World Junior Championships.
She graduated from Princeton with a degree from the School of Public and International Affairs in 2020. Additionally, she earned a master's in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from Wisconsin in 2022.
"I am so excited to be joining Navy Women's Crew and the larger staff at the boathouse, both are institutions with a strong culture and a long history of success," exclaimed Milligan. "After meeting the women on the team, I knew this was a remarkable group of student-athletes that I wanted to work with. I am looking forward to supporting them in their athletic and personal development. Everyone at the boathouse and in Ricketts Hall have also been incredibly welcoming, and for that I am very grateful!"
