Offshore Sailing Competes in 67th Race to Oxford and the Hammond Regatta

Navy Prepares for Two Local Races this Upcoming Weekend

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Finally opening up its fall slate, the Navy offshore sailing team had six crews compete in Saturday's 67th Race to Oxford and in Sunday's return race, the Hammond Regatta.

Saturday's course to Oxford, Maryland was shortened due to light winds but three of the Midshipmen boats finished.

In Class PHRF A2, senior Virendra Ghate led his crew on INTEGRITY to third place out of eight boats in that class, while Navy's other two entries in the class did not finish before the time limit expired.

In the J/105 class, junior Pat Fisher led the DREADNOUGHT crew to fifth place out of 11 entries, while fellow junior Nate Bramwell was next in sixth as the skipper of AVENGER.

For the race back to Annapolis in the Hammond Memorial Regatta, Ghate's INTEGRITY team was again the top Navy boat, taking second place in its nine-boat class.

In the J/105s, Fisher also repeated as the best Midshipman boat, this time taking first among the four entries. Junior skipper Rowan Suarez-Parmer captained CONSTELLATION to second and Bramwell placed his AVENGER team third.

The Spirit Rider Regatta, also scheduled for this past weekend, was canceled this fall.

Next up for head coach Jahn Tihansky and the Navy offshore sailing team is the Hospice Cup (Sept. 17) and the Navy-hosted Shields Trophy Regatta (Sept. 17-18), with both races taking place in Annapolis.
