EDIT -- As of 10 A.M. on Friday morning, the time of the game was moved up to 5 P.M.

ANNAPOLIS, Md.
- The Navy women's soccer team will be back in action this Friday night with a home Patriot League showdown versus Colgate. Coming off a pair of tight one-goal losses, the Mids (4-4-3, 1-2 PL) will be looking to get back to their winning ways when the Raiders (1-7-2, 1-2 PL) come into town for the fourth conference game of the season for both squads. Through early Patriot League action, the standings are wide open as all teams have lost or tied at least one of their first three games as the six postseason positions are separated by just one game in the win column. Kickoff between the Mids and Raiders is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.

The Navy-Colgate game will have live stats provided online.

Most Recent Matchup: October 2, 2021 in Hamilton, N.Y.
In a rematch of the 2020-21 Patriot League Women's Soccer Championship, Navy and Colgate turned in an identical result on Saturday as the two high-level squads posted a 1-1 draw at '76 Beyer-Small Field. The visiting Mids (5-5-2, 1-2-1 PL) broke ahead midway through the first half courtesy of a Jenna Daunt goal in the 33rd minute and used clutch overtime goalkeeping from Mattie Gallagher to walk away from the league matchup with a tie with the Raiders (6-4-1, 2-1-1 PL).

In an offensive firefight throughout most of the 110 minutes, Colgate was the first team to take aim at grabbing an early lead as the hosts tallied four shots in the opening 19 minutes of action, including one attempt on frame. Navy evened the shot statistic in short order as the Mids registered four shots over a three-minute run of play between 19:13 and 22:20. Amanda Graziano highlighted Navy's effort during this span as she juked a defender and whipped a curling shot from 20 yards away towards the upper-90 where Colgate's goalkeeper Grace Poncsak jumped up and punched the ball over the crossbar in the 21:23.

A little over 11 minutes later, a free kick restart by Navy from midfield resulted in Daunt's second goal of the season. Caitlin Doran first came in possession of the long free kick and chested down the ball deflecting it towards Alexa Riddle, who quickly laid down a pass to Daunt, who sprinted onto the ball and one-timed a powerful shot into the upper half of the frame at 32:38.

Navy kept up its offensive pressure as the visitors challenged Poncsak with three more shots on goal over the final 13-plus minutes of the half, though none of the shots found the back of the net.

Coming out of the halftime intermission with the score 1-0 in favor of the Mids, the back-and-forth offensive fireworks continued immediately as within the first 4:17 of the second half the teams had combined for three shots on goal, two for Colgate and one for Navy. Gallagher was up to the task in net for the Mids as she turned aside the shots by Adrienne Vaughn and Lyna Schaffer. The Raiders tallied the ensuing three shots over the next eight minutes. Colgate's control of the action in the attacking third eventually paid dividends as Ally Giovino knotted the game at 1-1 as she took a Hannah Pinkus pass and put a low shot into the far corner of the goal at 59:23.

Down the stretch in the final 10 minutes of regulation, Navy's defense was particularly tested as Colgate took aim with five shots. Midshipmen defenders blocked three of those shots, while Gallagher saved the other two attempts. In total, Colgate registered 12 shots in the second half.

Tied 1-1 going into sudden victory overtime, the Raiders controlled the majority of the scoring chances in the first extra period as they tallied the only three shots. Gallagher was a standout in this stanza as the sophomore made a dramatic penalty kick save of Ruby Diodati with 31 seconds left in the initial period.

The second overtime was more even as both sides tallied two shots, though both of Doran's attempts were blocked for Navy. Gallagher continued her stellar performance in extra time as she saved shots on goal by Giovino and Vaughn in the 103rd and 105th minute, respectively. That shutdown effort helped the Mids hold on for the 1-1 decision.

For the game, Colgate outshot Navy, 21-18 with a 10-8 advantage in shots on goal. The Mids tallied two more corner kicks than the Raiders with a 7-5 final margin.

Last Time Out: September 24 at Boston University
Taking on the defending regular season Patriot League champions, the Boston University Terriers, the Navy women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision as the Terriers netted the go-ahead goal in the 84th minute in a conference game at Nickerson Field in Boston. In a hard-fought contest, the Mids (4-4-3, 1-2 PL) put 10 shots on goal, but were unable to find the back of the net as the Terriers' (5-6) goalkeeper Cecilia Braun turned in a career-best performance with 10 saves.

In net for Navy, Mattie Gallagher made four saves, including one on a penalty kick in the 78th minute.

Kassidy Borden tallied the game's first shot on goal in the 26th minute as she ripped a low free kick from 35-yards out that forced Braun to bounce off her line and to her right. A little over 10 minutes later, Kat Healey sent a dangerous corner kick into the back of the six-yard box that saw Braun bat it away from a host of crashing Midshipmen attackers. As a team, three of Navy's five shots in the first half were on goal, while none of Boston's six looks required a reaction from Gallagher.

That stat didn't last for long as in the opening 4:51 of play in the second half the Terriers twice tested the Mids' goalkeeper with shots on frame. Both Amy Thompson and Jenna Oldham's shots were denied with full-extension diving saves by Gallagher. The fast-paced action continued as Alexa Riddle responded with two shots on goal of her own in quick succession in the 52nd and 55th minute.

Navy kept the pressure on Boston as a turnover in the midfield in the 64th minute saw Jenna Daunt quickly gather the ball and find Amanda Graziano around the center line before she played a through ball into space for Isabella Romano, who dribbled into the 18 before putting a left-footed shot on net only to see Braun leap up and extended herself to the upper right.

Gallagher had her number called less than three minutes later as Marli Rajacich dribbled through the Mids' defense and put a shot on goal that tried to beat Gallagher between her legs. The junior keeper was fast acting and dropped to her knees to make the stop. She came through with another spectacular save in the 78th minute as she denied a penalty kick by Thompson. The Terriers' attacker put her attempt low and to the left only to see Gallagher drop down and extend her hands to push the shot wide and keep the game at a 0-0 score.

Boston finally broke onto the scoreboard in the 84th minute when Abigail McNulty found Thompson inside the box for a quick settle, spin and shot.

Trailing by one and less than 15 seconds left in regulation, the Mids had one last look at the goal when Caitlin Doran gathered a bounding ball off of a Graziano corner kick and ripped a shot only to see Braun snag the shot and fall to the ground as the clock ticked to all zeroes.

For the game, Boston outshot Navy, 17-14 though the Mids had a substantial 10-5 advantage in shots on goal. The hosts had a slight 8-6 edge in corner kick opportunities on Saturday.
