The Navy men's basketball team will make the short drive to Baltimore on Saturday for a 5 p.m. game between the Mids (8-9, 1-4) and Loyola (6-12, 1-4).
Five Starting Notes
1 – Navy won both games against Loyola last year, but those two wins were by a total of three points. That continued the trend of close games between the teams as 12 of the last 13 games in the series were decided by single digits.
2 – Navy and Loyola first met 113 seasons ago (1909-10), but this is only the 33rd season in which the teams are facing each other. This year marks the 10th season of the teams competing as members of the Patriot League.
3 – Loyola is the fifth team from Maryland Navy is playing this season. The Mids previously played Coppin State, Mount St. Mary's, Towson and Washington College.
4 – Seven returning Mids have already set single-season scoring highs this year, with
Patrick Dorsey (needs six points) and
Sean Yoder (needs three points) each on the verge of joining them in doing so.
5 – Navy ranks second in the Patriot League and is tied for eighth in the NCAA in three-point field goal percentage. Colgate lead the league and ranks fifth nationally. The Patriot League as a whole ranks first among all conferences in three-point field goal percentage.

• Navy took a 31-27 lead at halftime. The Leopards made eight field goals and were 8-14 from the foul line while the Mids made 12 field goals and were 3-6 from the free throw line.
• Lafayette scored the opening nine points of the second half to take a 36-31 lead.
• Navy drew to within one at 39-38, then had a game-tying field goal attempted down 44-42 that missed the mark. The Leopards stretched their lead to 52-42 and led by at least six points the rest of the way.
• Navy was held to a season-low 19 second-half points and 50 points for the game. The Mids were 0-12 from three-point range in the second half, and ended the game 6-13 from the foul line. Lafayette was 15-25 from the free throw line for the game.

• Loyola has posted an overall record of 6-12 this season and is 1-4 in Patriot League play. The Greyhounds have compiled home records of 3-4 overall and 0-2 in league play.
