24th-Ranked Hobart Tops Navy Squash

Despite winning three of its first-four matches against #24 Hobart (5-7), the 25th-ranked Navy squash team (13-9) went on to drop a 6-3 decision to the Statesmen Monday afternoon at Squash on Fire in Washington, D.C.

Match Highlights
• Alexander Orr (Fr / Haverford, Pa.) provided Navy with an early lead after sweeping (11-7, 11-1, 11-7) Hobart sophomore Roberto Vega at the #6 position.
• Hobart leveled the match with a win at the #7 slot with Sayf Elhawary edging out Navy's Ben Balser (Sr / Brooklyn, N.Y.) in four games. Balser opened with a 13-11 win in the first game, but Elhawary won the next three, including a 19-17 nail-biter in the fourth.
• Navy pushed ahead once again behind a 3-1 win by Henry Sparkman (Jr / Darien, Conn.) at #3. Sparkman dropped the opening game 13-11, but battled back to win the next three games, defeating Hussein Labib by 2 points in each of the last two games (12-10, 11-9).
• The Mids went up 3-1 after Matt Wang (So / Malvern, Pa.) earned a sensational come-from-behind victory over junior Sebi De La Vega at the #1 position. De La Vega jumped out to a 2-1 advantage before Wang evened the match with an 11-7 win in the fourth. Wang sealed the victory by scoring an 11-8 win in the fifth.
• Hobart went on to win the final four matches, including a pair in five games, and tacked on a fifth with Navy's default at the #9 position to secure the win.
• Orr and Wang both captured their 17th win of the season to stand atop Navy's wins leader board this season. Wang led Navy a year ago with 18 wins.
• Sparkman earned his 15th victory of the year, tying his wins total from last season.
