ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team will open its 2023 home schedule Saturday when the Mids (0-2) play host to Saint Francis U. (0-0) at 2 p.m. and St. Bonaventure (0-0, prior to a Friday match at Loyola) at 5 p.m. in the Tose Family Tennis Center.

Navy Update
Navy began the season with a pair of matches last Saturday at Dartmouth. The Big Green defeated the Mids by scores of 5-2 in the morning and 7-0 in the afternoon.
Navy won the doubles point in the first match of the day between the teams.
Luke Garner (So., Arnold, Md.) and
Sasha Panyan (Jr., Lutherville, Md.) first combined for a 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles, then the No. 2 tandem of
Aniketh Ayinala (Fr., Charlotte, N.C.) and
Gavin Segraves (Sr., Charlottesville, Va.) won its match in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3). Panyan earned the second point of the dual when he won a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) decision at the No. 1 flight. Additionally, losing in a third-set tiebreaker for the Mids was
Nathan Nguyen (Fr., McLean, Va.) as he dropped a 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) match at No. 5 singles.
Saint Francis U. Preview
The Red Flash posted a 5-19 record last season and finished Northeast Conference play with a 1-4 record. The tournament's seventh-seeded team lost to No. 2 St. Francis Brooklyn in the quarterfinal round of the event.
Navy has won eight of the nine previous matches in the series. The Mids defeated the Red Flash, 6-1, last year in the Tose Family Tennis Center.
St. Bonaventure Preview
The Bonnies head into their 2023 opener at Loyola after ending 2022 with an overall record of 7-13 and a 0-4 mark against Atlantic 10 Conference foes. St. Bonaventure defeated eighth-seeded George Mason in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament before the No. 9 Bonnies lost to top-seeded VCU in the quarterfinals.
Navy holds an 8-1 advantage in the series with St. Bonaventure and has won the last eight matches played between the teams. That includes a 6-1 victory for the Mids last season in Annapolis.

It was announced this week that both Navy teams will face their counterparts from Air Force on Feb. 18 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., as part of the organization's annual College MatchDay event. The 5 p.m. matches will be aired on ESPN+.
