The 25th-ranked Navy squash team (6-1) pushed its winning streak to six in a row after scoring a 6-3 victory over 27th-ranked Dickinson (1-3) Wednesday evening at the Prager Family Squash Facility in Annapolis.
Freshmen
Tighe Mullarkey (Locust Valley, N.Y.) and
Sean Wu (Fr / Princeton, N.J.) earned 3-0 sweeps against their respective opponents to give Navy an early 2-0 lead before Edwin Hess earned a 3-0 victory at the No. 9 spot to give the Red Devils their first win.
Navy, however, would not be denied, as the Mids rattled off six-consecutive wins to clinch the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference victory over Dickinson.
Match Highlights
• The middle of Navy's lineup was phenomenal, as Navy won the No. 4-8 matches to go along with the victory at No. 1
• Navy's freshmen won 4 of their 5 matches and were responsible for 4 of the 6 victories on the evening
• Four of the 9 matches went extra games with the two teams splitting the results
•
Matt Wang (Jr / Malvern, Pa.) played one of the most exciting matches of the evening, a match that would last more than 80 minutes ... Wang rallied from a 2-1 deficit and overcame a handful of match points to earn a 3-2 victory (11-6, 8-11, 7-11, 12-10, 11-9) over Dickinson's Joe Smythe at the No. 1 position
•
Matthew Kang (Fr / Malvern, Pa.) had a strong performance at No. 4 and despite an extended match, defeated Kobe Fleming in 4 games
• The Mids dropped back-to-back matches at No. 2 and No. 3, but both were 4-game decisions ... in particular, team captain
Henry Sparkman (Sr / Darien, Conn.) went toe-to-toe with Dickinson's Omar Ali at No. 2 (12-10, 13-11, 9-11, 11-1)
•
Ramsay Killinger (Fr / Wyndmoor, Pa.) posted a 14-12, 11-9, 11-7 win over Dickinson's Cormac Sullivan at No. 8 to clinch the team victory with Navy's fifth win of the night
• Navy improved to 13-3 all-time against Dickinson
• The two programs met 3 times a year ago with Navy earning an 8-1 win in November. Dickinson beat Navy 5-4 at the MASC Championship and by the same count at the CSA Team Championship. The Mids were playing a man down in both losses.
• Wednesday's match marked Navy's last at home until Jan. 21 when it plays host to Franklin & Marshall ... Navy will play 11 matches between now and their next home contest.
