Mids to Conclude First Half of Squash Season This Weekend on the Road

The 25th-ranked Navy squash team (7-2) will play its final matches of the 2023 calendar year this weekend. The Mids, who last played on Nov. 19 against Bates (W / 7-2), kick things off on Friday at 6:30 pm with neutral site match (Squash on Fire in Washington, D.C.) against #28 Wesleyan (2-1). Navy closes out the weekend on Sunday when it travels to Charlottesville, Va. to take on #17 MIT (6-4) at 10:00 am in a Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference match.

Weekly Rewind
• Navy put together a 2-1 record in its last week of action which was played the week of Nov. 13-19
• The Mids opened the week with an important 6-3 victory at home over MASC foe Dickinson before splitting action against top-ranked Penn (L / 9-0) and #22 Bates (W / 7-2)
• The lower half of the ladder had an extraordinary week, as Alexander Orr, Tighe Mullarkey, Sean Wu and Ramsay Killinger put together 2-1 records.
• Matt Wang, meanwhile, played one of the most exciting matches in the Mids' win over Dickinson, a match that would last more than 80 minutes. The third-year member of the ladder rallied from a 2-1 deficit and overcame a handful of match points to earn a 3-2 victory (11-6, 8-11, 7-11, 12-10, 11-9) over Dickinson's Joe Smythe at the No. 1 position
• Ramsay Killinger currently sits atop the wins leader board for the Midshipmen with a 7-2 record, while Matthew Kang (6-3), Lucas Spiro (6-3), Tighe Mullarkey (6-2), Alexander Orr (6-2) and Sean Wu (6-2) have produced 6 wins apiece
• Matt Wang has his sights set on the 50-win milestone as he heads into the weekend with a 44-29 record, while Lucas Spiro needs one win this weekend to join Wang and Henry Sparkman in the 40-win club

About the Opponents
Wesleyan
• Ranked 28th by the College Squash Association, Wesleyan enters the weekend with a 2-1 record, earning wins over Brown (8-1 / top-ranked club team) and #32 Vassar (9-0), while dropping a 7-2 decision to #20 Middlebury
• The Cardinals' top-two players on the ladder - sophomore Nimai Kini and senior Toby Goldston - are both undefeated at 3-0

• Navy owns a 29-1 record against Wesleyan in a series that first began in 1950.
• The Cardinals' lone win in the series came in January of 1997 when they defeated Navy 5-4 in a neutral site match played at Army
• Navy has won 12 in a row against Wesleyan

MIT
• MIT, who is ranked 17th, has put together a 6-4 record to date. The Engineers own wins over Boston U. (9-0), Boston College (9-0), Northeastern (9-0), #21 St. Lawrence (5-4), #23 Hobart (6-3) and Brown (9-0 / top-ranked club team). Their losses have come against #14 Western (5-4), #13 Rochester (6-3), #15 Colby (6-3) and #4 Trinity (9-0)
• The Engineers will play 2 matches prior to playing Navy - Friday at #8 Virginia (4:00 pm) and Saturday vs. #10 Dartmouth (10:00 am / Charlottesville, Va.)
• Freshman Mero Elmarassy has played the No. 1 spot in 8 of the 10 matches, posting a 4-4 record, while sophomore Hyun Su Price stands 5-3 at the No. 2 position

• In a series that began in 1949, Navy owns a 55-5 series advantage over MIT
• The Engineers, however, have won 5-consecutive matches against Navy, including last year's regular-season match (1-29) in Annapolis (7-2), as well as their match at the MASC Championship (7-2) in Charlottesville, Va.
• Navy's last win in the series was on Nov. 16, 2018, when the Mids captured a 7-2 victory over MIT in Annapolis

What's Ahead
• Navy will be off the rest of the month to focus on final exams and observe the holiday break
• The Mids will return to action Jan. 5 when it travels to Middlebury, Vt. to battle #20 Middlebury (5:00 pm) at the Bostwick Family Squash Center. The first of three matches that weekend, Navy will also play at #11 Williams (Jan. 6 / 12:00 pm / Simon Squash Center) and at #18 Amherst (Jan. 7 / 11:00 am / Davenport Squash Courts)
