DANBURY, Conn. - Coming off of another outstanding individual performance in Navy's win over William & Mary on Saturday, senior
Connor Van Loo (Freeland, Mich.) was named as the Eastern College Athletic Conference Specialist of the Week.
Van Loo continued his standout senior campaign as he won both the floor exercise and vault on Saturday against William & Mary. He cruised to 0.25 margins of victory on both apparatus. On the floor exercise, his 5.3 (highest difficulty) routine earned a 8.15 execution score for an overall 13.45 score. He repeated his winning formula on the vault with the highest execution score (9.65) for his 4.9 vault for a 14.55 overall score. Through early season action, Van Loo has already placed first twice on the floor exercise, as well as top-three twice on the vault. In the national rankings, his scoring averages are 10th-best on the floor and 16th on the vault.
Individually, this is the eighth weekly honor in Van Loo's decorated career as he was selected as the ECAC Specialist earlier this season on Jan. 17 and last year on Feb. 9, 2022 after collecting five ECAC Rookie of the Week nods in 2020. As a program, Navy has now earned five ECAC weekly awards in 2023 after
Isaiah Drake (Gymnast),
Ronan McQuillan (Specialist) and
Matthew Petros (Rookie) swept last week's announcement.
Navy has its focus squarely set on Army this week with the 2023 Star on the line between the two squads. First touch at Army's Gross Center is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
