Navy’s Skalniak Named to Tewaaraton Award Watch List

Navy men's lacrosse co-captain Patrick Skalniak (Sr / M / Dallas, Texas) is among 50 players who have been named to the initial 2023 Tewaaraton Award Watch List it was announced Friday evening by the Tewaaraton Foundation. This is the second-consecutive year Skalniak has been named to the Watch List after being added in the second round of additions last spring.

"These student-athletes represent the very best at the collegiate level and have honored the Creator's game with their past play," said Andy Phillips, president of the Tewaaraton Foundation. "We look forward to watching them achieve new heights this season for both themselves and their teammates."

A 2022 USILA, Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine All-American, Skalniak has enjoyed a decorated career in his four seasons in Annapolis. The two-time First-Team All-Patriot League selection enters the weekend owning the nation's fifth-longest active point-scoring streak (31 games) and the second-longest by a player who has not played an extra year. Skalniak has amassed 88 points on 51 goals and 37 assists during the streak which dates back to his first-collegiate game on Feb. 7, 2020, against Manhattan. Having scored 6 goals in the Mids' first-two games of the season, Skalniak needs just 12 points to become the 37th player in program history to reach 100 points for his career. Last year, he became just the fifth midfielder in school history to eclipse 40 points in a season, joining Bob DeSimone (44 in 1975), Ryan Wade (48 in 2019), Glen Miles (53 in 1986) and Brian Keith (53 in 1989), as he paced the team with 48 points on 28 goals and 20 assists.

Skalniak is one of five players to represent the Patriot League on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List, joining Vince D'Alto and Roy Meyer of Boston U., Mike Sisselberger of Lehigh and Payton Rezanka of Loyola.

Recognized as the most prized award in college lacrosse, players not named to the initial watch list will have opportunities to play their way into a spot as the season progresses. Watch list additions will be announced on March 7 and March 28, before the field will be narrowed to 25 men's nominees on April 18. Nominees can be players from the Watch Lists or not from the Watch Lists, effectively allowing for a third round of additions. The five finalists will be announced in early May.
