The Navy men's golf team is set to open its spring season on Monday when it travels to South Carolina to compete at the Bash at the Beach. Hosted by Appalachian State, the two-day, 54-hole event will be held at the Surf Golf and Beach Club (par-71, 6,705 yards) in Myrtle Beach, S.C. with 36 holes of action scheduled for Monday, followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday. There will be a shotgun start Monday starting at 9:15 a.m.

The Field
• Navy (249) is among an 18-team field that includes two teams from the host Appalachian State (173), along with Bucknell (227), Connecticut (189), Dayton (153), Delaware (191), Holy Cross (258), Long Island (206), Maryland-Eastern Shore (294), North Carolina A&T (267), North Carolina Central (295), Oral Roberts (106), Presbyterian (211), Queens, Rhode Island (164), Rider (252) and Utah Valley (108).
• The Midshipmen will play in a foursome with golfers from North Carolina Central, Presbyterian and Rhode Island
Recapping the 2021-22 Bash at the Beach
• Troy was crowned last year's winner at the Bash at the Beach with a 24-under par 828 (275-278-275), edging out host Appalachian State by 3 strokes. Marquette (-17), Long Island (-17), Connecticut (-16), Rider (-9), Radford (-1), and Delaware (-1) also finished under par.
• UConn's Tommy Dallahan earned individual medalist honors with a 12-under 201 (67-69-65). Appalachian State's Sverrir Haraldsson turned in a 63 in the final round, but came up just shy of Dallahan's mark at 11-under.
• This will be Navy's first appearance at the Bash at the Beach, a tournament that also features Patriot League foes Bucknell and Holy Cross.

More on the Mids
• Rookie
Chip Deegan (73.56) led the Mids in scoring average during the fall season, while team captain
Keegan Shreves (73.58) nearly equaled Deegan's mark.
• The two combined to record seven rounds under par, including Shreves' 68 in the second round the the season-opening Doc Gimmler.
• Deegan, meanwhile, recorded the Mids' lone top-10 finish in the fall, placing eighth at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate after shooting par (73-71-69=213).
• Shreves competed in all three tournaments in the fall - The Doc Gimmler, Folds of Honor Collegiate and the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate. Additionally, he represented Navy at the prestigious Jackson T. Stephens Cup played this year at the Seminole Golf Club in Juno Beach, Fla.
• Valdez made appearances in all three tournaments, while Nuez played in bookend tournaments - The Doc Gimmler and ODU/OBX Intercollegiate.
• While Tarzy made his first collegiate appearance in the annual Army-Navy Star Match last October, the Bash at the Beach will be his first collegiate tournament appearance.
What's Ahead
• Navy will play a second time this week when it returns to the state of Maryland to take part in the Carpetbagger Classic.
• Hosted by Colgate, the two-day tournament will be played on Saturday and Sunday, March 18-19 at the Worthington Manor Country Club.
