ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy freshman infielder
Henry Mitchell was named the Patriot League Baseball Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
The Albuquerque, New Mexico native went 5-for-9 this past week, totaling a triple, two walks, three runs scored and two runs batted in over four games.
After debuting against UMass on March 4 with a pinch-hit double and making his first collegiate start the next day, Mitchell continued his torrid start by drawing a pinch-hit walk at Georgetown on Wednesday.
He followed that with a two-hit performance in the 3-1 series-opening win against Princeton, notching a two-run single and then tripling later in the contest to set up him scoring Navy's third run on a wild pitch, and racked up another single in the 5-3 victory in Saturday's nightcap.
The freshman then collected another two-hit game in Sunday's series finale, scoring twice in the 7-4 Navy win. Mitchell also converted on all eight of his fielding opportunities during the week.
The freshman is now batting .500 on the season with six hits in six appearances, going a perfect 10-for-10 on fielding chances.
Mitchell is the first Navy player to be named Patriot League Rookie of the Week since
Landon Kruer earned the weekly award on April 19, 2022.
