DANBURY, Conn. - The strong freshman campaign of Navy's
Matthew Petros continued this past weekend in a tri-meet versus Stanford and Air Force and was rewarded by the Eastern College Athletic Conference with the ECAC Rookie of the Week award. The Broadview Heights, Ohio native is now a four-time honoree and has secured the award in three of the past four weeks.
Continuing to grow into his role with the vault, parallel bars and high bar lineups, Petros once again posted high scores for the Mids in home action against the #2 Cardinal and #8 Falcons on Saturday. His individual effort was led by a fifth-place result on the high bar with a score of 13.1 (4.4 difficulty and 8.7 execution). His execution score was second on the event only to Stanford's Nick Kuebler's 8.8. Additionally, Petros turned in a 14.05 vault and a 12.1 p-bars routine.
As a program, Navy has now earned nine ECAC weekly awards in 2023 ...

Petros and the Navy team will conclude its regular season slate on Thursday night at Simpson College. First touch in Indianola, Iowa is set for 7 p.m. (ET), 6 p.m. local.
