Navy Track and Field Looks to Continue Success Against Army in Outdoor Star Meet

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Navy track and field teams play host to Army in the outdoor Star Meet on Saturday, April 1 at Ingram Field. The meet is part of the Army-Navy Star Series, presented by USAA.

Navy has swept the outdoor meet the last seven times it has been held. 

The field events begin the day (men at 9:30 a.m. / women at 10:45 a.m.) with the track events following (men at noon / women at 3:30 p.m.).

"I think things have gone well this week in terms of preparation for Saturday. Everyone is really excited and they want to go out and compete," said Director of Track and Field / Cross Country Jamie Cook. "The expectation is to prepare how we have throughout the year. The key to Saturday will be the effort we give in each event and how we execute the plan we have in place."

Notes For Traveling Fans
• Vehicular access to the Naval Academy is limited to those drivers with a Department of Defense identification card. 
• All other visitors must either park outside of the Naval Academy grounds and walk through the security gates at Gate 1 or take the complimentary shuttles from Navy-Marine Crops Memorial Stadium (550 Taylor Avenue, Annapolis, Md., 21401). 
• The shuttles will run from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
• Enter the blue/west parking lot through gate 5 off of Taylor Avenue. 
• The cost of parking is $10.
• Visitors 18 years and older must present a government-issued identification card (driver's license/ passport) to gain access to the Academy grounds, while visitors 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.

Meet Scoring
Scoring is 5-3-2-1 for individual events and 5-3 for relays. The teams will enter three athletes competing in each individual event with two scoring per institution. There are 203 total points in the 17 individual events and two relays. A team needs 102 points to win the meet. 

Chance To Clinch Star Series
Along with the two stars up for grabs in track and field, Navy women's tennis also will battle Army for a star. If Navy claims two stars this weekend, it will secure at least a tie in the 2022-23 Star Series. If Navy earns all three stars, it will win the Star Series for the 41st time in the past 45 years. 

Navy has claimed stars in sprint football, men's and women's cross country, women's swimming & diving, rifle, gymnastics, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's basketball and wrestling in the 2022-23 Star Series.

Army-Navy Outdoor Series
The men's team has posted a record of 51-44 against the Black Knights, which includes a 25-21 record in Annapolis. The men have won 10-consecutive meets and 16 since 2000. 

The women's team holds a 21-14 advantage over Army and has compiled a record of 12-5 when competing at home. The women have won seven-straight meets and 15 of the last 17.

Navy swept the outdoor Star Meet for the seventh-consecutive year in West Point, N.Y.

The Mids won 11 of 19 events and earned the maximum points in six to post a 107-93 victory.

Highlighting the men's returning winners is Braden Presser, who posted a victory in the javelin with a meet-record distance of 71.99m (236' 2"). The throw is currently the sixth farthest in Navy history. 

Jumpers Caden Dailey and Joe Hurt return to defend their titles. Dailey posted a mark of 7.34m (24' 1") in the long jump, while Hurt recorded a distance of 14.61m (47' 11.25") in the triple jump. 

Brahmir Vick will go for his second-straight victory in the 110m hurdles. His winning time of 13.95 seconds at last year's event is the 10th fastest in school history. 

Other returning track winners included Sethan Hollier in the 200m (21.32), Jacques Guillaume in the 400m (48.13) and Alex Rizzo in the 1,500m (3:45.58).

The women's team was victorious in 13 of 19 events and claimed the maximum points in nine to defeat Army, 117-86.

Molly Mangan and Sabrina Sutter look to score big points for the Mids again after contributing a combined 26 points last year. The two were members of Navy's 4x100m team that posted a winning time of 45.95, which is the second-fastest time in Navy history. They also helped Navy win the 4x400m relay with the 10th-best time in school history at 3:45.67. 

Individually, Mangan claimed a victory in the 100m dash with a time of 11.78. She also placed second in the 200m dash with the fifth-best performance in program history at 24.18. Sutter edged Mangan for the win in the 200m with the fourth-best finish in Navy's record book at 24.13. The Shingletown, Calif., native also finished in second place in the 100m dash with a time of 11.83.

Winter Boese clocked in a time of 10:27.37 to win the 3,000m steeplechase. The time is the fifth fastest in school history. 

Ellie Abraham crossed the finish line in 2:08.46 to win the 800m. Her time ranks 10th at Navy. 

Sami Bollinger aims to replicate her career day in the triple jump. She won the event and broke the school record with a distance of (12.29m / 40' 4").  

Hannah Lowenstein also nothed a top-10 mark in her high jump victory. She posted the seventh-best height in school history at 1.73m (5' 8").

Pole vaulters Charlene Morke and Stephanie Jacobs finished in a tie for first place with a mark of 3.90m (12' 9.50"). The height is the sixth best in Navy's record book.

Navy's next competition takes it to Fairfax, Va., to compete in the George Mason Spring Invitational Saturday, April 8. A start time for the meet is TBD.
