ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team will vie for the program's 15th Patriot League Tournament title this weekend in Hamilton, N.Y.

Weather permitting, Colgate's outdoor venue, the J. W. Abrahamson Tennis Courts, will play host to the tournament.  Drumlins Tennis Club in Syracuse will serve as the site if play is forced indoors.

The top-seeded Mids (20-19, 6-0) open tournament play Friday at 9 a.m. in a quarterfinal round match against the winner of the No. 8 Loyola (6-15, 1-6) vs. No. 9 Holy Cross (7-12, 0-6) first-round match that will be played Thursday afternoon (3 p.m.).  Loyola posted a 4-3 victory over Holy Cross when the teams met earlier this season.  

Navy did not play Holy Cross this year and registered a 7-0 win over Loyola on March 25.

The winner of Friday's first quarterfinal round match will advance to a Saturday (10 a.m.) semifinal match against either No. 4 Lehigh (11-9, 4-3) or No. 5 Bucknell (14-7, 4-3).  Those teams meet in the quarterfinals Friday at 10:45 a.m.  The Mountain Hawks tallied a 4-3 win over the Bison on Saturday.

Navy defeated Lehigh, 7-0, on April 1 and registered a 5-2 win over Bucknell –– the Bison won the doubles point and the Mids won a pair of three-set singles matches –– on April 8.

Second-seeded Army (18-11, 6-1) headlines the other side of the bracket.  The Black Knights begin the postseason Friday against No. 7 Lafayette (3-12, 2-4).  Army defeated the Leopards, 4-0, on March 26.

The winner of that match will play either No. 3 Boston U. (12-11, 4-2) or No. 6 Colgate (5-15, 3-5) in Saturday's second semifinal.  The Terriers defeated the Raiders by the score of 4-0 on April 2.

Army defeated both Boston U. (4-2 on April 9) and Colgate (6-1 on Jan. 21) this season.

The championship match will be played at noon on Sunday.  

At least one of the two service academy teams has appeared in the tournament final in each of the last 19 seasons.  Each of the last eight and 13 of those 19 finals have featured an Army-Navy pairing.  Army and Navy also met in the semifinal round three times during this nearly two-decade span.
