HAMILTON, N.Y. -- The Navy men's tennis team did not drop a set in posting a 4-0 victory over Loyola, Friday morning at the Abrahamson Tennis Courts in Hamilton, N.Y.  The match between the No. 1 Mids (21-19) and the No. 8 Greyhounds (7-16) took place in the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Tournament.

The victory advances the Mids to a Saturday 10 a.m. semifinal match against either No. 4 Lehigh or No. 5 Bucknell.

Navy put together a good start to its match against Loyola by losing a combined four games in earning the doubles point.  Finn Garner (Sr., Arnold, Md.) and Nathan Nguyen (Fr., McLean, Va.) combined for a 6-1 win over Oliver Davey and Harry Zeiders at No. 2 singles.  The Mids secured the doubles point when their No. 1 tandem of Luke Garner (So., Arnold, Md.) and Sasha Panyan (Jr., Lutherville, Md.) posted a victory by the same 6-1 score over George Cavo and Nick Lawliss.

The remaining match at the No. 3 flight had Navy's duo of Christian Pumpelly (Sr., Atlanta, Ga.) and Gavin Segraves (Sr., Charlottesville, Va.) holding a 4-2 lead over Matt Cardano and Jorge Quintana when play was stopped.

The Mids would win the first set at each of the six singles matches to further strengthen their advantage.  Herrick Legaspi (Fr., Sacramento, Calif.) defeated Ryan Boland, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 singles in the first match to finish.  Luke Garner followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Lawliss at the No. 3 flight to make the score 3-0.  Segraves closed out play when he defeated Davey, 6-4, 6-0, No. 2 singles.

"We had a great start today," said Navy head coach Chris Garner.  "They were sharp in doubles and started quickly in doubles.  They stayed the course to the finish."

Panyan at No. 1 and Aniketh Ayinala (Fr., Charlotte, N.C.) at No. 6 were each one game away from winning their respective matches when play was halted.  Additionally, J.J. Etterbeek (Fr., Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) held a 3-0 advantage in the second set at the time Segraves won his match.
