Navy Men’s Golf Places Eighth at Columbia Spring Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Pa. //  Jack Tarzy (Fr / Medford, N.J.) and Braxton Tracy (Sr / Huntersville, N.C.) each had top-20 finishes to lead the Navy men's golf team to an eighth-place finish Monday at the Columbia Spring Invitational played at the Rolling Green Golf Club in Springfield, Pa. Despite improving its second-round mark in the afternoon by over 10 strokes, Navy would move up just one spot alongside Penn (374-367) in the final standings with a 41-over par 741 (377-364).

Tarzy was Navy's most consistent golfer of the day, putting together rounds of 72 and 74 to tie for 20th with a 6-over par 146. Meanwhile, Tracy was superb in the final round where he finished 1-under to secure his first-collegiate top-20 finish, matching Tarzy's 6-over par 146. His previous best finish was a 33rd-place mark of 12-over par 156 (78-78) at the Lehigh Invitational his rookie campaign. The veteran golfer's 69 marked the lowest round of his career, while his 6-over par 146 marked his lowest 36-hole score in total and in relation to par.

Chip Deegan (Fr / Newport Beach, Calif.), who garnered individual medalist honors for the first time in his career just a week ago at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate, tied for 41st with his 10-over par 150 (74-76). Benjamin Valdez (So / Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) also finished 10-over, putting together rounds of 77 and 73.

Rounding out the lineup for the Mids were team captain Keegan Shreves (Sr / Potomac, Md.) in 49th (77-74, 151) and Owen Huntington (So / Camas, Wash.) in 61st (79-74=153).

Tournament Notes
• Harvard (355-351=706) dominated the field and captured the team title with a 16-stroke victory over second-place Columbia (363-359=722).
• The Crimson shot the two lowest rounds of the tournament, including a 1-over par 351 in Monday afternoon's final round.
• In addition to Harvard, there were only two more rounds of under 360 - Lehigh's final round of 358 and Columbia's final round of 359.
• Harvard had 3 players finish among the top 3, including Brian Ma who took individual medalist honors with his 6-under par 134 (68-66). Teammates Kevin Sze (70-69) and Jeff Fang (69-70) tied for third with a 1-under par 139

The Mids will have a short turnaround to prepare for the 14-team Hoosier Collegiate Invitational. The 54-hole tournament is slated to be played at the Pfau Golf Course (Par 71 | 7,432 yards) in Bloomington, Ind. with 36 holes scheduled for Saturday (9:00 am / shotgun start) and the final 18 holes on Sunday (8:30 am / tee times off No. 1 and No. 10).
