ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Marissa Meyer of the Navy women's rugby team has been nominated for the 2023 MA Sorensen Award. The Washington Athletic Club has presented the award annually since 2016 to the top women's college rugby player in the country.
The award is named after World Cup-winner (Maryann) MA Sorensen, who played and coached rugby and also served as a doctor.
Meyer is one of 17 athletes nominated for the award. The list will be narrowed down to four finalists by public vote. Fans have until Sunday, April 9 to submit votes. Ballots can be cast by clicking

The winner will be chosen by a panel of experts, which includes Sorensen. The award will be presented at the gala event hosted by the Washington Athletic Club in Seattle, Wash., on June 10.
Meyer is Navy's top scorer in 15s play this season. She has scored 65 points on a team-leading 13 tries. The sophomore finished with three tries against Virginia Tech for the first hat trick by a Mid this season. She was a key player in Navy's fall playoff run with five tries in its three matches. Two of her scores came in the Fall D1 Championship Match against Utah State to help Navy win its second-straight title.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native looks to become the first Mid to win the award.
