Navy to Play at No. 5 Virginia in NCAA Tournament Match

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Navy men's tennis team will play at 2022 national champion Virginia this weekend in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.  The match between the Mids (23-19), winners of the Patriot League Tournament, and the Cavaliers (24-4), the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament champions, will be played Saturday at 1 p.m. in Charlottesville, Va.

The other first round match in Charlottesville features VCU, winners of the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament, playing Ole Miss, which received an at-large berth to the postseason.

The winners of those two matches will play Sunday at 1 p.m. in the second round.

Navy is making its fifth-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament.  Additionally, the Mids are in the postseason for the 11th time in 15 tournaments and for a Patriot League-best 15th time since the field was expanded to 64 teams in 1999.

Last year saw the Mids win the doubles point from No. 15 North Carolina in a 4-1 victory by the Tar Heels.  Navy very nearly won the doubles point from Oklahoma State in 2021, but the Cowboys won a tiebreaker (10-8) in the third and final match to finish.

Navy previously played Virginia in the first round of the 2009 and 2010 NCAA Tournaments.  The Cavaliers won both matches by the score of 4-0.
