Cook and Campbell Earn Mid-Atlantic Region Coach-of-the-Year Honors From USTFCCCA

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Director of Track and Field / Cross Country Jamie Cook and Associate Head Coach Chris Campbell were recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as the Mid-Atlantic Region Men's Outdoor Coach of the Year and Men's Outdoor Assistant Coach of the Year, respectively.
 
Cook earned his fifth coach-of-the-year accolade from the USTFCCCA since his arrival in Annapolis. He had previously been named the men's outdoor coach of the year in 2018, '19 and '21. Additionally, he garnered the women's indoor coach-of-the-year honor in 2021. Campbell received the first assistant- coach-of-the-year award of his tenure at Navy.
 
The men's team concluded the season as the top-ranked program in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The Mids posted 25 times / marks that ranked in the top 10 in the region, which included the best 400m time by Nathan Kent (46.37).
 
Cook guided the men's team to a dominant, 126-77, victory over Army in the Star Meet. The win was the men's 11th-consecutive and 52nd overall in the series. The 126 points scored by the Mids was their highest point total since 2000. Additionally, the 49-point differential is the second-largest margin of victory for Navy in its 96 meetings against Army. The men's team won 15 of the 19 events and earned the maximum points (eight) in 10 by placing first and second in an event.
 
The men's team scored 323.2 points to win its ninth-straight Patriot League Outdoor Championship and 10th in its history. Navy's team score was the second best in league history behind its league-record 333 points that the team set in 2022. Additionally, Navy's score marked just the third time a team has scored 300 or more points in the meet's 32-year history.
 
Cook's sprinters and hurdlers dominated the scoreboard at the conference championship. The Mids scored 29 points in the 100m and 200m and 24 in the 400m. Navy posted a point total of 19 in the 110m hurdles and 18 in the 400m hurdles. The Mids also won the 4x400m relay and placed second in the 4x100m relay.
 
Cook was named the Patriot League Men's Coach of the Year for his team's performance. Additionally, Jacques Guillaume was recognized as the men's track athlete of the meet and Kent was selected as the men's rookie of the meet.
 
Navy's postseason success began with a victory at the IC4A / ECAC Championship. The men placed first of 38 teams with 154.5 points to earn their eighth IC4A Championship. Cook has aided Navy to win four of the last five IC4A titles. The meet was highlighted by the 4x400m relay team of Pete deJonge, Kent, Jay Evans and Guillaume breaking the school record with a winning time of 3:06.87.
 
Of the 11 men's athletes who competed at the NCAA East Preliminaries, five of them work directly with Cook. Guillaume and Kent qualified for the 400m dash and the 4x400m relay with deJonge and Evans. Additionally, Brahmir Vick earned a spot in the 110m hurdles.
 
The highlight for Navy at the East Preliminaries was Braden Presser, who worked personally with Campbell. Presser placed second in the javelin with a throw of 75.95m (249' 2") to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championship. At nationals, Presser placed sixth with a top throw of 76.00m (249' 4") to earn First Team All-America honors.
 
Campbell helped Presser post four top-10 javelin marks during the season. He first broke the school record with his throw at the East Preliminaries before he broke it again with his mark at the NCAA Outdoor Championship. Additionally, he recorded the fifth-best (73.08m / 239' 9") and sixth-best (72.68m / 238' 5") throws in Navy history during his junior campaign.
 
Joshua Boamah had a breakout season under Campbell's direction. He was named the Patriot League Men's Field Athlete of the Meet at the conference championship. The San Diego, Calif., native won the discus (54.71m / 179' 6") and shot put (17.67m / 57' 11.75"). Additionally, he placed second in the hammer throw with the fourth-best mark in school history (66.20m / 217' 2").
 
Boamah also garnered the men's most-outstanding-performer accolade at the IC4A / ECAC Championship for scoring 18 points combined in his two events. He won the shot put with a distance of 17.10m (56' 1.25") and placed second in the discus with a mark of 51.73m (169' 8").
 
Boamah qualified for the East Preliminaries in the hammer throw, discus and shot put during his junior campaign. Additionally, Sam Kwatkosky earned an opportunity to compete in the hammer throw.
 
Overall, Navy had eight throws ranking in the top 10 in the Mid-Atlantic Region and six throws ranking in the top-100 nationally across four events.
