ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The U.S. Men's Lacrosse National Team will look to capture its 11th gold medal when 30 countries from all points of the world converge in San Diego, Calif. over the next two weeks for the 2023 World Lacrosse Men's Championship presented by Rady Children's Hospital. The tournament is slated to begin on Wednesday with the U.S. taking on Canada (10 pm ET / 7 pm PT, ESPN2) at Snapdragon Stadium, followed by opening ceremonies.
Navy head men's lacrosse coach Joe Amplo will make his second appearance as a member of the U.S. Men's National Team coaching staff at the World Lacrosse Men's Championship. Amplo, who will coach this year's championship alongside head coach John Danowski (Duke) and assistants Seth Tierney (Hofstra) and Charley Toomey (Loyola), has already won gold once, serving as the defensive coordinator for the 2018 world championship team.
Additionally, Navy men's lacrosse technology and video assistant Rob Camposa will also make the trip to San Diego to capture the action as the team's videographer.
ESPN will serve as the exclusive television partner of the 2023 World Lacrosse Men's Championship and will broadcast all 107 games on its television and streaming platforms in the U.S. and in a record 185+ territories via ESPN International. Coverage will be highlighted by six games across ESPN2 and ESPNU in the U.S. — with all 107 airing on ESPN+.
The championship will feature the top 30 men's national teams in the world, including several notable players from the Premier Lacrosse League and National Lacrosse League. The event will include five days of pool play, followed by playoffs comprising a first round, quarterfinals, semifinals and medal games.
Coverage will kick off with Wednesday's opener between the U.S. and Canada. Since 2002, the U.S. and Canada have alternated championships with the U.S. winning in 2002, 2010 and 2018 and Canada winning in 2006 and 2014. The 2018 championship was a record 10th for the U.S. team since the inaugural championship in 1967.
ESPN2 will also carry both semifinals on June 29 (8 and 11 pm ET), as well as the title game on July 1 (7 pm ET). ESPNU coverage will include a quarterfinal on June 28 (10 pm ET) — featuring the U.S. if the team advances, and the bronze medal game on July 1 (4 pm ET).
