ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Rising seniors
Sydney Boutz and
Charlotte d'Halluin of the women's rugby team were selected as team captains for the 2023-24 season, head coach Murph McCarthy announced Friday.
Boutz appeared in all 13 games with 11 starts in 15s competition last season. The Parkville, Mo., native was a vital piece of Navy's defense that surrendered just 18.9 points per match in 15s. She also competed in the West Chester 7s, Emperor 7s and Legacy 7s during the spring. The astrophysics major owns a cumulative 3.35 GPA and has earned academic honors from the USNA in all six completed semesters.
d'Halluin played a big role for Navy's No. 1 7s team during the spring with appearances in four tournaments. She scored three tries in 7s contests, which included the final try of the title match at the Emperor 7s to help the Mids place first in the tournament. The Jersey City, N.J., native also appeared in five matches with one start in 15s action. d'Halluin is ranked 43rd in Overall Order of Merit and 56th in Academic Order of Merit amongst the class of 2024. The mechanical engineering major has
received six USNA academic honors while maintaining a cumulative 3.96 GPA.
"We are really excited about next year and I am personally looking forward to Charlotte and Sydney stepping up to lead us," said McCarthy. "They have both been overachievers since they were freshmen, setting the example on the pitch, in the classroom and in the hall. They will do a great job leading this team."
Women's rugby begins its season Sept. 2 against Queens University of Charlotte in Greenwood, S.C.
