The Navy women's soccer team extended its streak of undefeated play to open the 2022 season with a 1-1 draw versus in-state rival the University of Maryland on August 25. The action at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility began fast and continued over 90 ultra-competitive minutes in a contest that could have went to either team. Jenna Daunt led the scoring effort for the Mids (2-0-2) with a goal 60 seconds into the game, while Mattie Gallagher made five saves on six shots on goal by the Terrapins (0-0-2).

Navy jumped out almost immediately to a 1-0 lead over Maryland as the Mids connected on a set piece at the one-minute mark. Amanda Graziano started the scoring play with a high-arching corner kick that looped into the 18-yard box. Katie Herrmann gathered the ball first and ushered it towards the Maryland goal when Daunt reached out late and flicked a successful shot past the Terrapins' goalkeeper Madeline Smith.

The Mids fell victim to an equalizer by the Terps at 14:27 when Kam Fisher found the back of the net.

After Navy outshot Maryland, 8-6 in the first half, the Terrapins turned up the heat in the attacking third in the second half and registered 12 shots versus three for the Mids. Though Gallagher and Navy's defense was under fire for much of the 45-minute period, Maryland was forced into taking long shots that either flew wide of the net or were denied by Gallagher without trouble.

For the game, Maryland outshot Navy, 18-11 with a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Most Recent Navy-Ohio Matchup: Sept. 2, 2021
Navy saw its run of unbeaten action to start the 2021 season come to an end with a 1-0 loss on the road at Ohio University on Sept. 2, 2021. Coming into the contest at Chessa Field with a 3-0-1 record the Mids (3-1-1) were felled by a Bobcats (3-0) club that netted a late first half goal and recorded 18 shots in the game, including nine on goal. Navy's goalkeeper Mattie Gallagher kept the visitors in the match as she turned away eight Ohio shots on goal to tie her then- single-game career-high.

The action was fairly even through a good portion of the first half as each team moved the ball throughout the field and recorded numerous shots, but only three of those 11 combined shots found their way on goal. Gallagher stopped Ohio's first shot on goal in the 28th minute, though the Mids' keeper was unable to prevent the Bobcats' second shot from crossing the goal line as Daelynn Rosser's attempt went in for the game's first score at 38:47.

The Mids' final gasp for a game-tying goal saw a frantic last 60 seconds as Rylee Rives took a shot and Carolyn Mang went back-to-back with a pair of shots within 15 seconds of each other; the last shot testing Ohio's keeper Sam Wexell in goal.

In the 1-0 loss, Navy was outshot by Ohio, 18-13. The Bobcats also held a 9-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Mids' late game pressure resulted in the club finishing with a 9-2 edge in corner kicks.

Last Time Out: August 20 vs. St. John's
The Navy women's soccer team turned a strong 90-minute effort and withstood a persistent and talented attack from St. John's to come away with a 0-0 non-conference draw on Sunday afternoon. After opening its 2023 season with a fast-paced and pressing contest against Charleston Southern on Thursday, Navy (1-0-1) showcased a completely different side of its makeup in front of its home fans on Sunday as the Mids' defense took center stage in its shutout performance against the Red Storm (1-0-1) at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.

Mattie Gallagher led Navy's defensive effort with four individual saves and numerous more intercepted or batted away crosses and corner kicks from St. John's. The Red Storm kept the pressure on the Mids with six corner kicks on Sunday. The shutout was the 14th of Gallagher's career and moves her into a tie for sixth all-time with Dayton Wetherby (2013-16).

In the scoreless draw, St. John's outshot Navy, 13-8 with a 4-1 edge in shots on goal. In a game filled with physical challenges, the teams combined for 21 fouls, 11 for the Mids and 10 for the Red Storm.
