Marlee Heaven and Mattie Gallagher Earn Weekly Honors from Patriot League

Duo were named the Offensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following its second straight weekend of undefeated soccer, the Navy women's soccer team was rewarded with a pair of Patriot League weekly awards on Monday. For her efforts in the Mids' second half comeback on Thursday at Maryland, Marlee Heaven (So., Rockville, Md.) was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, while Mattie Gallagher (Sr., Gilbertsville, Pa.) was selected as the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week after combining for 17 saves over contests against Maryland and Ohio.

Heaven single-handedly drew Navy even at Maryland on Thursday with a pair of goals. Down 2-0 coming out of halftime, Heaven received crosses from Alexa Riddle (Jr., Tomball, Texas) and headed home scores in the 49th and 52nd minutes to quickly make it a 2-2 contest. Navy ended up tying Maryland 3-3 to increase its undefeated streak against the Terrapins to four games (1-0-3) dating back to 2018. For the week, Heaven played 116 combined minutes over the Maryland game and Sunday's tilt versus Ohio.

Gallagher's efforts in goal this week helped Navy continue its run of undefeated play to kick off the 2023 season as the Mids tied at Maryland (3-3) before coming home and tying Ohio U. (1-1) on Sunday. In back-to-back contests Gallagher was called upon to make eight or more saves as she started with eight stops on Thursday before setting a season-high on Sunday with nine saves. For the week, she posted a 2.00 GAA and a .810 save percentage. With those nine saves on Sunday, Gallagher is now up to 21 saves on the season and 229 for her career. In the program record books, she moved into third place and trails just Kim Bonafede (234 saves, 2001-04) and Amy Hakola (479, 1994-97).

These are the first two Patriot League awards for the Navy women's soccer team this season. Individually, Gallagher is now an eight-time recipient of the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week award. This is Heaven's first Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honor; she garnered one nod in 2022 as a Patriot League Rookie of the Week.

The Mids will continue their early season non-conference action later this week with a pair of road games in South Carolina. Their road trip begins on Thursday night with a 7 p.m. tilt at Presbyterian College before wrapping up their series of games on Sunday afternoon at Wofford. Kickoff between the Mids and Terriers is scheduled for 1 p.m. in Spartanburg.
