BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off a 1-0 shutout victory over Lehigh to start its 2023 Patriot League campaign,
Tatum Kelly of the Navy Women's Soccer team was recognized on Monday as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week.
Kelly led a Navy defensive unit that held Lehigh scoreless and restricted the Mountain Hawks to just three shots on goal on Friday. The junior center back and the Mids limited Corinne Lyght, the 2022 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year, without a shot on goal during Lyght's 77 minutes of action at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility. Kelly didn't leave the pitch and played all 90 minutes in Navy's 1-0 win; a feat she's accomplished six times in the Mids' first nine games of 2023. Kelly leads all Navy field players with 715 minutes of combined action this fall.
This is the third Patriot League awards for the Navy women's soccer team this season as
Mattie Gallagher and
Marlee Heaven collected the PL Offensive and Goalkeeper of the Week nods on Aug. 28. Individually, this is Kelly's second career Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honor as she was selected on October 3, 2022
Kelly and the Mids will continue their early Patriot League action with a pair of road games this week. First up, is a Wednesday night tilt at Loyola at 7 p.m. before the team travels to Hamilton, N.Y. and Saturday afternoon showdown at Colgate. Kickoff between the Mids and Raiders is set for 4:30 p.m.
