ANNAPOLIS, Md. – After exploding for nine points over the last three games, Navy men's soccer senior
David Jackson was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
The midfielder continued his hot start to the 2023 season by tallying three goals and three assists for the Midshipmen over a seven-day span, including scoring his first collegiate brace and then recording the most assists by a Navy player in a game since 2000.
Opening the week against VMI on Monday, Jackson secured the Mids' 3-0 victory with a pair of successful second-half penalty kicks, picking up the first two-goal game of his Navy career and becoming the first Navy player to have a multi-goal game since Jacob Williams tallied three goals against Army on Oct. 9, 2021.
Jackson then assisted on Navy's opening three goals in Friday's 6-0 shutout over Howard, helping the Mids establish a 3-0 lead before halftime. His three helpers marked the first time a Navy player had a three-assist game since Michael Paisant racked up a trio of assists against LIU on Sept. 1, 2000.
The Patriot League Preseason Midfielder of the Year, Jackson finished out the week with another goal in the Mids' contest against Liberty on Sunday, capitalizing on a 78th-minute penalty kick chance that pulled Navy within one goal of the Flames and extended Jackson's point streak to four games.
Jackson now has 11 points on the season, bringing his career total to 49 points (17 goals, 15 assists), as the midfielder has also been successful on his last nine penalty-kick attempts dating back to 2021.
Navy closes out its four-match homestand on Friday, Sept. 8, taking on Longwood at 7 p.m. at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
