Navy Welcomes Army for Annual Star Match Showdown on Saturday

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – One of the most historic rivalries in all of sports awaits the Navy women's rugby team (3-4, 1-4 in the NIRA) on Saturday, as the Mids welcome their historic rival Army (5-2, 4-2 in the NIRA) for the annual Star Match at the Prusmack Rugby Center. The match is part of the Army-Navy Star Series, presented by USAA.

The match is slated for a noon kickoff and can be watched live on the Navy Athletics YouTube page and on navysports.com.

The match will also mark the ninth competition of the 2024-25 Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA.

Last Time Out

Navy fell on the road to the defending national champion Harvard, 74-7, last week.

Navy's leading scorer Mia Young registered her third try of the season in the second half. The Falls Church, Va., native has accumulated 41 points this season. Sophomore Meagan Alvarez added two points with her ninth conversion kick of the season.

Young Climbs Up Record Book

Young finished with five points against the Crimson to increase her scoring total to 41 points this season. Her effort ties her with Nicole Deprey for the third-most points scored by a Mid in a single 15s season. Marissa Meyer holds the record with 65 points.

Young also holds the record for the most conversion kicks in a season with 13.

Series History

Going into the third all-time meeting between the two programs, Army holds the advantage 2-0. In the last outing, the Black Knights defended its home pitch, 42-22, to capture the star.

Scouting Army

Army enters the match with a 5-2 record and has won four of its six matches against National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) opponents.

The Black Knights have amassed last season win total (4) and NIRA victories (3).

In its most recent outing last week, Army's five-match winning streak was snapped in a high scoring battle to Brown, 40-33.

Army's offense is scoring 31.5 points per match and has surrendered 20 or more points in three games this season.

Navy will close out its fall 15s schedule on the road at Mount St. Mary's (Md.) next Saturday at Emmitsburg, Md. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
