Offense Slowed in Volleyball Loss at Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Lehigh used its defensive to limit the offense for the Navy volleyball team in a three-set victory (25-16, 25-18, 28-26) by the Mountain Hawks (14-9, 7-6) over the Mids (4-18, 4-9), Saturday evening in Bethlehem, Pa.

The match started in Lehigh's Grace Hall, but had to be moved to nearby Moravian University early in the second set due to a power outage.

"First of all," said Navy head coach Paco Labrador, "I would like to thank all of the administrators, officials and game day staff for doing an incredible job of relocating the match and allowing the teams to finish the competition.  Thank you also to Moravian for putting in the extra hours to host the remainder of the match.

"While we are all disappointed in the result, we know there's better volleyball in us.  We will regroup and continue to put forth effort, competitiveness and physicality."

Set One
Lehigh held a 14-13 lead when they scored the next four points to open up an 18-13 advantage.  The Mountain Hawks led by at least four points the rest of the set.

Set Two
Navy held a 5-4 lead when the power went out in Grace Hall.  After about 75 minutes it was decided that the match would move to Moravian.  It resumed a little more than an hour after that.

The score would be tied at 10-10 when Lehigh scored six-straight points and well as eight of the next nine to build an 18-11 cushion.

Set Three
Neither team held any significant lead in the set, which saw the score tied seven times and the lead exchanged on three occasions.

Lehigh held an 18-17 lead when Navy scored the next five points to take a 22-18 advantage.  The Mountain Hawks tied the score at 23-23, but a kill by Lilly Lutz took the Mids to set point.  That was the first of six-straight sideouts during which time Navy served for the set at 24-23, 25-24 and 26-25.  With the score tied at 26-26, Lehigh scored back-to-back points on Navy attack errors to win the set and the match.

Inside the Numbers
Lehigh had just four more kills than Navy, 42-38, but the Mids had 20 attack errors and hit .100 to the 12 attack errors and .295 hitting percentage recorded by the Mountain Hawks.  Lehigh held a 9-6 edge in blocks.

Lutz posted a career-best 12 kills and added a .360 hitting percentage.  Defensively, Hannah Hoover led the Mids with 17 digs.
