ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Securing a pair of big singles wins this past weekend, Navy junior
Emily Tannenbaum was named the Patriot League Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Earning the honor for the second time this season and the fifth time in her career, Tannenbaum went 3-1 overall on the weekend with a perfect 2-0 singles record that extended her singles winning streak to 11 matches.
Tannenbaum opened the weekend alongside freshman
Olivia Fermo in doubles play at No. 47 West Virginia, falling 6-3 to WVU's No. 1 pairing of Michaela Kucharova and Momoko Nagato, but Tannenbaum responded by scoring a 6-3, 6-0 win at the No. 1 position over Love-Star Alexis, marking one of Navy's two singles victories on Saturday against the Mountaineers.
Sunday saw Tannenbaum and Fermo then notch a 6-1 win against Dartmouth's Alexandra Dewire and Elizabeth Fahrmeier on the top doubles court, while Tannenbaum overcame a tough first set to post a 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 victory in the No. 1 match against Peyton Capuano, helping the Mids tally a 4-3 win over the Big Green.
Now with 77 career singles wins, Tannenbaum needs one more win to catch Darien Sears for third in the record book. Tannenbaum is also now fourth in the Navy record books with 135 career combined victories, needing one more win in either singles or doubles play to catch Sears' 136 combined wins that sit third.
Tannenbaum and Navy return to action this weekend, hosting No. 60 Liberty on Friday before welcoming Drexel and FDU to the Tose Family Tennis Center on Saturday.
