ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Naval Academy Director of Athletics Chet Gladchuk announced today the promotion of
Tim Fisher to head coach for the men's and women's diving programs.
Fisher was originally hired during the 2023 summer as the team's associate head coach for diving.
"It is with great pleasure that we promote
Tim Fisher to the position of head coach of our diving programs at the Naval Academy," said Gladchuk. "Over the course of time, he continues to illustrate a full understanding of the values that are the Naval Academy and the leadership qualities that motivate all those around him.
"He accepted this position with an incredible list of professional accomplishments and the greatest degree of respect by his peers. I knew when we hired him, it was only a matter of time before he would be duly recognized as our head coach.
"My congratulations to Coach Fisher on proving to all that he is one of the best coaches in the sport today."
Navy divers claimed 16 of the 32 available spots in the four championship finals at last weekend's Patriot League Championship. This includes five men's divers advancing to the A final in both the one and three-meter events and four women's divers qualifying for the top final on the one-meter board.
Navy divers contributed a combined 462 points to the men's and women's team totals over the weekend, a tally that was nearly 200 points more than the second-place diving team.
Finn Gelbach was selected as the men's diver of the year as he won titles on both boards. Navy also had the second-place finisher in both men's events (
Blakeman Shaw, one meter;
George Moore, three meter) and in the women's one-meter event (
Mackenzie Kim), as well as the third-place diver on the men's three-meter board (Shaw).
Fisher was named the 2024 Joe Suriano Patriot League Diving Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the championship.
Navy also has qualified six divers in 14 events for the upcoming NCAA Zone A Diving Championship. Kim, Gelbach and
Anthony Sciulli have qualified in all three events (one meter, three meter, platform), Moore and Shaw advanced in both springboard events and
Darby Ratcliffe has qualified for the three-meter event.
His Navy divers combined for 26 victories in 36 events during the 2023-24 regular season and claimed 13 Patriot League Diver-of-the-Week accolades.
Prior to his arrival on The Yard, ran the Alexandria Dive Club since 2007 and the Montgomery Dive Club since 2022. He sent over 100 divers to NCAA Division I programs, most notably Anne Fowler at Indiana and Conor Casey at Stanford. Fowler currently is a senior who has earned All-America honors in each of her first three seasons, was the second-place finisher on the three-meter board at the 2023 NCAA Championship, won three Big 10 Conference titles and was an Olympic Trials qualifier. Casey also qualified for the Olympic Trials, totaled five All-America accolades, was a finalist on the one-meter board at the 2021 NCAA Championship and won five Pacific 12 Conference crowns prior to graduating in 2022.
Fisher's divers have amassed 18 USA Diving Junior National titles, won 10 medals at the Junior Pan American Games (2015-21), won three Senior National titles and earned medals at the FINA Grand Prix international competition. The current USA Diving Tier 3 squad includes four of his divers.
Fisher himself is a Gold Level mentor for the organization and has been part of national team coaching staffs for seven international competitions. A diver himself, he began his coaching career with the York Dive Club in Virginia from 1993-95 and later served as an assistant coach for the Patriot Dive Club in Fairfax, Va., from 2000-07.
Fisher served in the Army from 1991-97 and was stationed at Ft. Belvoir as an automated communications computer systems repair operator. He also has worked as a senior telecommunications engineer for Lumen Technologies since 2011.
