DANBURY, Conn. - The Navy gymnastics program continued to collect honors following its standout performance this past Saturday versus Army as Matthew Petros was recognized on Tuesday as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Gymnast of the Week. Petros' honor extends the Mids' streak of consecutive ECAC weekly awards to four consecutive awards' announcement. 

The sophomore from Broadview Heights, Ohio raised his hand on four different events on Saturday and combined to score 53.6 points for his routines on the pommel horse, vault, parallel bars and high bar. The leading individual scorer in Navy's 390.4-377.5 victory over Army, Petros placed first on the parallel bars with a score of 13.65, that cleared his nearest competitor by 0.15 points, while also finishing in a first place tie on the vault with 14.5 points. He continued providing the Mids with strong result-after-strong result as he ranked third on the pommel horse with a 13.05 score before rounding out his day on the high bar with a 12.4 effort. Petros' vault score was the second-highest in his young career.

This is Petros' first career ECAC Gymnast of the Week nod after collecting four ECAC Rookie of the Week accolades as a freshman in 2023. As a program this is the fifth ECAC weekly award during the 2024 season ...

The Navy gymnastics team will be back in action this Saturday night at the All-Academy Championship. Hosted in Frisco, Texas, first touch is scheduled for 8 p.m. (ET) at The Ford Center at The Star.
