PRINCETON, N.J. -- Navy's
Mackenzie Kim and
Finn Gelbach advanced to the finals in a combined five events at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championship that concluded Wednesday in Princeton, N.J.
The meet determined the zone's qualifiers for the upcoming NCAA Championships.
"Our team had a solid meet," said first year head coach for diving
Tim Fisher.
Kim placed 14th in the prelims of the one-meter event with a six-dive total of 256.90 points. She would place 10th overall among the 18 finalists with an overall (12-dive) score of 531.45 points. Kim then finished the prelims of the three-meter event in ninth place with a score of 279.05. She ended the event in 11th place with a total score of 560.10. Kim advanced to the finals of the platform event with a five-dive prelims total of 210.80. Her overall 10-dive score of 392.35 points placed her 18th.
"Mackenzie made the finals in all three events after qualifying for the meet in just one event last year as a freshman," said Fisher. "Her three-meter score was one point away from eighth place."
Gelbach began the championship by placing 12th in the prelims of the three-meter board with a score of 337.65 points. He moved up to ninth place in the final with a total of 687.55 points. On Wednesday, Gelbach scored 331.75 points in his six dives to reach the finals of the platform event. He accrued 655.55 points through the finals to finish in seventh place following his 12 dives.
Additionally, Gelbach competed in the one-meter event (27th place) and teammate Anthony Sciuli competed in the one-meter (31st place) and three-meter (47th place) springboard events and in the platform event (19th place).
"Finn bounced back well on Wednesday in platform after a bad knee buckle cost him points in Tuesday's one-meter event," said Fisher.
