Navy Shoots Team Score of 35-Over Par 899, Keira Howard Ties for 28th at 7-Over Par 223

SEDONA, Ariz. – While it could not replicate the success it had at the event last season, the Navy women's golf team used a strong final round of play Sunday to take 11th place in the 2024 Red Rocks Invitational at the Oakcreek Country Club.

Playing on the same par-72, 6,200-yard course where they won the 2023 Red Rocks Invitational, the Midshipmen ended Saturday standing 11th out of 20 teams at the Northern Arizona-hosted tournament, posting a score of 299 for the first round and while darkness caused the second round to be completed Sunday morning. Wrapping up a second-round score of 302, Navy then registered a weekend-best score of 298 to finish the event at 35-over par 899 and hold onto 11th place.

The host Lumberjacks claimed a share of its fifth team title, tying for first place alongside Seattle at 17-over par 881, while Northern Illinois' Emily Romancew won individual medalist honors with a score of 3-under par 213.

Finishing in a tie for 28th, freshman Keira Howard was the Mids' top golfer with a weekend score of 7-over par 223, shooting a 71 to open the tournament before back-to-back rounds of 76. Finishing one stroke behind Howard, senior Stephanie Lee tied for 34th at 8-over par 223 after rounds of 77, 73 and 74 to close the weekend strong.

Tying for 59th was rookie Emma Tang with a tournament score of 12-over par 228, improving over the course of the weekend with rounds of 80, 75 and 73, while senior captain Mara Hirtle ended the event in a tie for 66th place at 15-over par 231 (78-78-75). Rounding out the Navy lineup, sophomore Hallie Brisco tied for 88th with a score of 19-over par 235 after rounds of 73, 84 and 78.

Competing individually, freshman Una Johnson finished tied for 74th at 16-over par 232 (77-76-79), sophomore Sue Lee shot an 18-over par 234 (79-75-8) that ended up tied for 85th and junior Bridget Hoang posted a 21-over par 237 score (77-84-76) to claim a share of 92nd.

Navy returns to action March 29-30 with the JEL Intercollegiate at Prospect Bay, held at the Prospect Bay Country Club in nearby Grasonville, Md.
