McGullam Named to USILA National Team of the Week

ANNAPOLIS, Md. —  Navy's Ian McGullam (Jr / D / Centerport, N.Y.) has been named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Division I National Team of the Week which recognizes the 10 best individual performances from the previous week by players from around the country.

Making just his second-career start, McGullam helped spearhead a defensive effort that held #8 Johns Hopkins to single digits last Friday in the Mids' 10-9 overtime win against the Blue Jays at Homewood Field. Navy held Johns Hopkins to just 3 goals over the final 48-plus minutes and included two long scoring droughts  - 22:41 (3:05 1Qtr - 10:24 3Qtr) and 19:21 (10:24 3Qtr - 6:03 4Qtr). They are two of the four-longest stretches Navy has held an opponent without a goal this season. Additionally, the Blue Jays were scoreless in the 2nd quarter, marking the first time this season they have been held without a goal during any quarter.

McGullam, meanwhile, forced 2 Johns Hopkins turnovers and grabbed a career-best 3 ground balls in the win.

In addition to McGullam, this week's USILA Div. I National Team of the Week included Cornell defenseman Matt Dooley, UMBC midfielder Jordan Galloway, Duke goalkeeper Patrick Jameison, Virginia midfielder Griffin Schutz, Rutgers long-stick midfielder Ryan Splaine, Utah attackman Ryan Stines, Notre Dame attackman Jake Taylor, Towson midfielder Josh Webber and Virginia short-stick defensive midfielder Chase Yager.

Also earning recognition for his play against Johns Hopkins, Dane Swanson (Sr / M / St. Mary's City, Md.) was named the Naval Academy Athletic Association Athlete of the Week presented by Northrop Grumman. Swanson recorded his third-consecutive hat trick with 3 goals against the Blue Jays, scoring all 3 during Navy's 8-1 run to take the lead late in the third quarter.

After playing two-consecutive nonconference games, Navy will return to Patriot League action on Saturday when it plays host to Holy Cross. The game is slated for a 3:30 pm faceoff at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Pete Medhurst and Joe Miller on the call. Additionally, WNAV 1430 AM / 99.9 FM will carry the game live.
