Team captain
Henry Sparkman (Sr / Darien, Conn. / 9-20 season / 45-42 career),
Tighe Mullarkey (Fr-So / Locust Valley, N.Y. / 16-13 / 28-14),
Lucas Spiro (Jr / Buffalo, N.Y. / 12-18 / 45-45) and
Alexander Orr (So / Haverford, Pa. / 17-12 / 40-23) will represent the Navy squash team at the 2024 U.S. Intercollegiate Doubles Championship set to begin Friday at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center in Philadelphia. Additionally,
Matt Wang (Jr / Malvern, Pa. / 13-15 / 52-40) will compete at the College Squash Association National Collegiate Individual Championship which is also slated to start on Friday at the Arlen Specter US Squash Center. This will be the third-consecutive year the two championships will be held in conjunction with one another.
There are 41 teams entered to compete in the single-elimination U.S. Intercollegiate Doubles Championship, including the tandem of Mullarkey and Sparkman who will pair up for the first time when it faces Theo Kogan (So / New York, N.Y.) and Gabe Thin (Fr / Brooklyn, N.Y.) on Friday at 12:45 pm. Kogan primarily played the #4 position and tallied a 10-9 overall record this year, while Thin owned an 11-8 mark and saw the bulk of his action at #7. Middlebury lost identical 6-3 matches to Rochester and Colby in the Hoehn Cup at the CSA Divisional Team Championships.
Spiro and Orr, who made it to the semifinals a year ago, will open the tournament with a 2:15 pm match against Middlebury's Julian Sandoval (Jr / Guatemala City, Guatemala.) and Will Lichstein (Jr / Brooklyn, N.Y.). Lichstein was Middlebury's #2 player and finished the year with a 3-10 mark, while Sandoval did not compete during the regular season.
Navy has sent at least one team to compete in each of the 11 previously-played U.S. Intercollegiate Doubles Championships and a Navy team has played in the finals in nine of the last 10 championships. Last year, both Navy doubles teams made it to the semifinals with Sparkman and
Millen Randell advancing the championship where they would succumb to Western Ontario's Griffin Manley and Dylan Deverill in three games.
Navy won five-consecutive doubles titles (2015 - Bill Kacergis & Senen Ubina, 2016 - Randy Beck & Jack Herold, 2017 Jack Herold and Senen Ubina, 2018 Michael Kacergis & Senen Ubina, 2019 Jack Lentz & Michael Kacergis) and six of the last eight (2013 - Andrew McGuinness & Hunter Beck). Â
The 2020-21 U.S. Intercollegiate Doubles Championships were not held due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year marks just the third time the doubles championship has been held in the spring, as it had previously been held in the fall prior to the start of the regular season.

The Pool Trophy represents the top 16 entrants in the CSA National Collegiate Individual Championship, while the Molloy Division is divided into four draws (North, South, East and West) and represents players seeded 17 through 80. A double-elimination tournament, the winners of each of the brackets earn All-America honors.
Wang, who is competing in the individual championship for a third time in as many years, is competing in the Molloy North bracket and will face Cornell's Syan Singh (Fr / Mississauga, Ontario) in the opening round on Friday at 10:30 am. Singh was was the Big Red's #4 player this season where he amassed a 9-7 record, including a 3-0 mark in the Potter Cup at the CSA National Championship. A win over Singh would pit him against the winner of the Nimai Kini (Wesleyan) vs. Harold Castiaux (Columbia) match on Friday at 3:45 pm.
